Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Is this gray chick a male, and the browns are females, or do I have that backwards?

Do crested cream legbars have a crest? This one has a little poof of feathers on its head. No one else seems to.

Oops, wrong thread. This is cream legbar hybrid thread. Sorry.

I would say you have it correct.

Oh yes indeed -- each and every Cream Legbar should have a crest -- my guys just started showing off theirs at about 3-weeks old. Females have a more pronounced crest than males...but both sexes should show crests...

Likely painted? or mottled chickens.

I have Pita Pinta, also called Asturian Painted Hens. Mine are black with white:

Just hatched chicks:

Ron, I love the Painted Pullet. I have a Swedish Flower Hen that is colored about like that. Kern

Mine are over a month old, and only some of them show signs of a crest. Bad breeding stock?

Well now I am confused. Maybe I am misunderstanding what "autosexing" means. I thought it meant that you could sex the chicks visually on hatching, which is what I read everywhere about Welsummers.

welsummers are not autosexing.. thats why the Welbar(Autosexing welsummers) were created

some info on autosexing crosses

So curious about the white sapphires. You breed a cream crested legbar with a leghorn and get blue egg layers. What happens after that first generation?

This CL X Barnevelders wing feathers are coming in so beautifully

@Mama Bay I forgot to tell you that the hen was a Double Blue Laced Red Barnevelder, so according to the chicken color calculator, this is what you should possibly get. Since there are no pics for the girls available, I request that the experts be kind enough to explain what that genetic jargon means:

All I can understand is half of them will have blue and other half, splash. Certainly looks like they would be double laced or at least it will be "incomplete quail" lacing on the girls. I have no idea what that means either. The boys definitely will be barred, so the boys should start looking very different as soon as they feather out (idk if the correct word is feather in or out) at 3-4 weeks of age.

Oh my, that's quite the equation lol! I only have one so I would love to see the others you had hatched for comparison
