Cream Legbar Pictures

Pics

we are rehoming this cream legbar rooster and two young cream legbar Bielefelder mix pullets. He just seems to be able to get to our breeding stock unless we keep him locked down and that's not what we wanted for him. If you are in the middle Tennessee area and would like to have him and the two mix pullets send me a private message and he's yours. He is in molt right now but is growing fresh feathers so he is not as handsome as his picture right now but he is a nice looking bird when feathered out.

Thought I would jump in here as I am mourning the loss of 10 hens to an unknown predator a couple of days ago. I am thankful that this one CL hen was spared because both she and her egg is are sort of exotic! The photo of the eggs shows two of her eggs, one average CL egg, and one cream/white Sulmtaler egg (this will be my last, as I only had one of her and she was gobbled up).
All my other CLs look alike and have the dark colored head.

She has this beautiful ginger coloring... We call her "Ginger"

I am sorry for your loss. How awful for you! Every morning I go out and hope and pray they are all alright. Ginger is beautiful.

I'm so sorry for your loss - how awful. Ginger is SO lovely, as are her eggs (all three of mine are a more pale greenish-blue - I really wish I had more variety between my girls' egg color like you have so I could be more sure of which to incubate without having to trap nest). I love Ginger's coloring!

I've been following the recent cream discussion with interest, because I find it so interesting to read discussions of how to influence such a complex color pattern. I do find myself hoping, though, that perhaps we will ultimately have different variants of CL coloring that can be equally valued, because although the light birds are attractive, I happen to think that the "gold" birds that everyone is talking about "fixing" are actually really quite lovely. It would be nice to have a few variants in patterns accepted for growth of the breed (or am I misguided, in that if you go too much in that direction, they look too much like a brown leghorn?). Mine are hatchery stock and I'm not/will never be a breeder, so I don't have a dog in this hunt, I just love my CLs and am expressing a preference regarding their coloring...

Could someone explain what is meant by "crele"? (I saw those in the online show.) Is that, perhaps, what I'm "looking" for or referring to as a variant? What is the difference between "crele" and "gold"? (Apologies if my questions are stupid/basic - I'm simultaneously working on an aloha naked neck project, and feather genetics are completely scrambled in my head right now!)

Edit to add - I got confused - I was referring to the discussion on the Cream Legbar thread, not this one. My bad.

Thank you, both RedBanks and AntFarm for the very kind words.
I know Ginger doesn't conform to the standard, but I do love her unique coloring and I don't aim to show. One bird who stands out in their own crowd is bound to get some extra notoriety, for better or worse- and the fact that her egg resembles the one from my Isbar flock that was virtually wiped out (by maybe a bobcat?) is so very fun. I have her in the coop with my last Isbar hen and rooster, hoping for more purebred Isbar and maybe an interesting "Ice Cream Bar"....
Need to get this flock fortified!!!

Echoing everyone's sentiments, so sorry for your loss. I'm happy to see Ginger doing well, it sounds like your flock got hit hard.
I also had a CL named Ginger, for the same reasons, and she was adorable. She survived one predator attack but had an unhappy encounter a couple of years later...btw- your Ginger has beautiful white earlobes.

Jerod, Here are our first batch of chicks that we got in January 2012'. The head shots really show the diffence between the girls (brown vees on head) and the boys (white spots on head). The cockerels are both from different blood lines which is why they have different colour chick down. The pullets share a 3rd bloodline. Here is one of the pullets at 8 weeks old. And finally, I have to post this one of a 4 week old cockerel because it is the only photo we have that I love and my wife hates.

Is this a female legbar? If the egg was not blue is it a mix?
