Comment ca se plume? (How's it plucking)

My wife and I are on the way out tomorrow to see a couple of laying hens and are planning on getting one of these two breeds. We're told the Isbar out lays everything on their farm come mid summer here in Texas when the temps hit 100 plus.

We can only have four hens in town and plan to feed organically and knowing me, I will probably spoil the mess out of these birds. Everything from AC in the coup to cedar line dust bathtub has crossed my mind as I'm a tinkerer.

Does anybody here own both? Can you give me the nitty gritty between both breeds and if you had to pick one breed, which would it be and why? I primarily want chickens for their eggs.

If you can only have 4 hens then you are not breeding. I think the simple solution is two of each. Then you get both blue and green eggs. Personally I am planning on getting both this spring.

I agree, why only get one breed? If I could only have 4 hens, I'd honestly have 4 different breeds. If you like both these breeds, get some of each.

We got 2 of each. 2 cream legbars and 2 Isbars. The creamies we got were already laying and the Isbars are about 30 days out on word of the breeder. But I felt over of their pelvic boned are pretty far apart. I'll have pictures up tomorrow!

My daughter had a blast and wanted to take home a swedish flower hen. But we were told they didn't lay as well as the legbar or isbar.

So you have had them for about 5 weeks now. What do you think of each of the breeds? Have you gotten any eggs yet? Are the Legbar's eggs blue and the Isbar's moss green? How are their personalities? Do you like one breed better than the other?
