Cream Legbar vs Isbar

I'm looking forward to this answer as well! We have a couple of CL's, but they are pullets and haven't started laying yet. I have the Isbars on my wanted list! :)

Inquiring minds.... lol!

This is what I was referring to. Sorry for any confusion.

I think I got my Isbar and Cream Legbar from the same breeder

here in north Texas. I've had them since early May of this year. Rosie (CL) just started laying last week- very pretty blue eggs. Just about one a day which is great with the hot days. Iris the Isbar has not started laying yet but is getting close. Both are very gentle and lovely girls.

bouvsgrl -

That is good to know.

For people with both (like more and more of us it seems)--- I can fill in some information.

Cream Legbar pullets will generally come into lay at about 24-weeks. I have heard of earlier - but I tell people that get chicks from me to expect eggs at 24 weeks. My Isbars waited until they were about 8 months old.

My oldest resident Cream Legbar is 2 1/2 years old - and amazes me by laying an egg every day. I truly don't know how she does it.... every now-and-then she does take a day off..... but 2 1/2 year old laying like it is her first year.... What a hen.

My Isbars are laying each day and they are VERY small chickens 2.75 and 3 pounds or so. I didn't get them until they were about 5-months old - so I don't know for certain what nutrition they were raised on - or if they were just expected to free-range for their total nutritional requirements. That being said - the other day I got a 2-oz egg (USDA size Large) from one of my Isbars. The Isbars just started laying a few months ago. My adult Isbars are laying an egg daily too....They are just approaching 1-year old.

Pullet eggs of both breeds are very dainty (small) -- but they will increase as the pullet gets her egg-laying act together.

Colors:

in the foreground the Cream Legbar - in the back ground three Isbar eggs -- each a slightly different shade of green. the reference is an Online Auction Color chart (OAC) in case you are familiar with it.

They are both fabulous breeds. Of the two - the roosters from Isbar seem more likely to not become aggressive. The Cream Legbar roosters are more gentle with their hens. If you are raising your own chicks having Cream Legbars and being able to know if they are a male or female at hatch time - helps you plan... I happen to have 7 Isbar chicks now -- I think 3 are for certain little roosters, and two for certain little hens and the other two -- I'm going to have to wait...and wait...for a while (The 7 are just 4-5 weeks old or so right now)

Great info, thanks ChicKat! I'm going to have to try to find some Isbars for the spring! :) Love the green eggs! Does the colour of their eggs compare to the mixed breed Olive Egger at all? Or is it much more green?
