wow blackbirds13

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

blackbirds13, that is fantastic! My personal favorite- second one down on the left with the filled stars and the profile of the pair. Clean, easy to read, very nice. I like the flag background but thinking about seeing it from, say, button-on-the-shirt distance I think it may be too "busy" to read.

Rinda

Above and beyond, touchdown, score (sure the NFL isn't on)! Will be hard to decide a favorite. Love the blue. Like the third down and like the stars open, but like would try the black siloquette male. Or I like the 2 flags and the black and white barred male and female in center. Not sure about colors of letters around the circle. I think red if the flag isn't in the background read well. So cool that you can do this!

i say read the bps and build a prototype useing litebrite pegs and post pic's.

I am kicking myself for not getting the farm refills, or I swear I would have! Did photocopy the labeled birds in the standard and color them! Took a hike today with son. Need to step outside of the chicken world! I am so grateful to read and see everyone's posts. Kudos everyone!

  • How many people are putting more emphasis on showing than on breed performance? Just wondering here. I'm looking for results, and pretty is a nice add on. Autosexing helps a lot with flock management and future planning-- but bottom line, I think that egg production and sustainability, disposition, health and hardiness are far more important to me. I am aiming for utility first, show second. Also, to answer your question on the other post, I have a rooster with a 40* tail and Iam a horrible non-self picture taker (I flood my facebook with pics of myself and scenery but not chickens) so on my next day off (Tuesday) I will take a pic of him to prove that yes, low tailed males do exist!

I don't know if you need to have a Prime membership but if you look up the British Poultry Standards on Amazon you can look inside the book - pages 51 thru 54 contain the Legbar standards - it contains standards for gold, silver and cream to include down color.

hope it's okay to post this...

Ouch on the price of the book!

Add me to the WOWWWWWWWWW!!! crowd!

I love the clarity and simplicity of second row, left. Beautiful.

AND I love the details on second row, right -- particularly how the male's tail feather overlaps into the border. Seriously cool touch!

Perhaps if the shading/details on the birds (second row, right) were simplified?

I think they're both lovely as is!

  • Someone said awhile back that the UK has 'show flock' and 'breeding flock', if memory serves. If this were to be the case.... does that possibly mean that 'show flock' is inferior in performance?

I see type, production and plumage as going hand in hand. I think about the Marans and the problems they have because there was focus on dark eggs and correct color too much individually for too long. Finding a good BCM rooster is extremely difficult, even finding hens that are not too dark, too mossy or eggs too light and on and on and on is still so problematic. II'm try to put my focus on both.

A lot of you sell a lot of eggs and chicks - I have not shipped a single egg or chick and have only sold off 1 female and my rooster culls and I don't intend to show until I have something I'm happy with. Maybe next year I'll take a dive into the market place but probably not in any huge way until I'm truly happy with what I have to sell. I love the auto-sexing nature and the blue eggs of this breed for it's commercial purposes. My focus is different than yours as my interests are different. I'm small-time and will never be more than just a hobbyist for the most part. My show flock and my breeding flock have to be one in the same. Those with a bigger operation and more commercial goals will definitely have different desires that should be highlighted as much. I'm hoping the conversation will evolve to encompass both ends of the spectrum. As the breed becomes more popular and folks start to educate themselves about the breed and the desire for them increases they will be looking at the many aspects this bird offers. I think that those that do sell and have that commercial experience offer a great insight into those aspects of the birds that I would love to hear about. I don't have that knowledge base at all.

on the logo end. We can mix and match from one design to another and if anyone else has done any that they would like to share? I'll have to make note of all the critiques...
