Cream Legbars

My CL's are quieter than my other birds. Noisiest? the Maradunna Basques. Not only do the girls sing LOUDLY when they lay, the rooster each time would run over and sing back to them just as loudly. There was no missing the big event! The CL roosters do crow, but not nearly as loudly as the big Basque roos.

I would call them polite, hesitant, not flighty but very cautious. They range well, but when spooked run back into the pen very quickly. The one broody pullet I had was evil incarnate - although she never pecked me, she would expand to double her size and let out a blood-curdling screetch, stalking around wild-eyed when evicted from the nest until allowed back on. Fortunately she broke quickly when moved to a small pen.
Thanks for the info! You know I have noticed that my noisiest chicks have turned out to be the loudest hens. Has anyone else noticed this? Guess next time I raise some pullets I'll pick the quietest of the chicks (if this holds true) and sell the noisy ladies.

As a chick (we bought the chicks at 4-5 weeks old), this bird had "boy" coloring. She/he has had a red comb for months... it doesn't crow or lay an egg. She basically looks like a brown female Cream Legbar. Anyone else had this?

What is the source if you don't mind me asking? I would guess she is a hybrid, not a pure cream legbar because she wasn't autosexable at hatch, she doesn't have much crest, her hackles are VERY gold, and her salmon chest is not very well defined. Any of one those or even two I could see occurring in a poor quality Cream Legbar but to have them all together I would suspect she is mixed. Also do you have pictures of her as a chick? Some female chicks do have a faint yellow headspot which leads to misidentification but they have the unmistakable chipmunk stripe that boys do not have.

ETA: ah I missed that you bought at 4-5 weeks. Do you have a picture of that then?

I am going to PM you. She has never laid us an egg, ever, and she is now 9 months.
