Don't forget to take behavior into account when breeding too, behavior/personality traits are subjective to what the owner/breeder wants, but very important in the long run to you being happy with your birds.
Just thought I should mention it.

I have not had any issues with my birds in regards to behavior or personality. They've all been non-aggressive. I do not keep them as pet-friendly as most since I cull so much and so hard but I know they can be quite gentle and friendly.
At what age is the barring pretty set?
Once they are completely feathered out you can start getting an idea. Look at the breast area especially. The hackle and saddle feathers need to be barred also so look at that too, when they start to show you can start getting a pretty good idea of the general phenotype of the bird.
Are there any sites that have nice pics of good type vs bad type? Or are there other breeds that are easier to find good example of that would have the same type?
There are quite a few British sites and fb. You can check on the Cream Legbar Club website also. There are some that find comparing them to other breeds useful. I have to admit it does not work so well for me. The breed is a composite of others so I can understand the references but prefer to compare like to like. It is helpful for me in learning what the terminologies are and how to look at the body for type characteristics though.
