Cream Legbars

OK here are my three boys from Sunday/Monday's hatch. I have the left (gray) and right (hint of brown) ones banded to watch as they grow out. Anyone else seeing boys this color? 70% of my boys are like the one in the middle- very dark. I'm assuming those will grow out with more chestnut in the saddle/shoulders. Hoping at least one of these two light ones will grow out like Hugger, my nice boy, as they are his brothers. If they do I may be onto something!

I'm going to surmise (and I do mean surmise) that both boys are going to grow up with some saddle color and their down color seems to be a bit too dark, per Niclandia. The boy on the left may be more cream as an adult than brown boy (maybe) but he still seems a bit dark to me. But I would love to see what they do look like in the end. Gonna start incubating some of my own in a few and am looking forward to hopefully a few cream needles in that haystack.... or if the gods favor me maybe a haystack of cream needles.

I'm not really laughing that hard too afraid I jinx myself, fingers, toes and eyes crossed.

We had a bout of that wonderful stomach flu here the last week and weekend so just getting back into gear. Had to cancel my 4 year old's birthday party - was a very sad and tiring weekend but spring's coming.... oh chicken heaven is on its way.

Awe how sweet! Is this Amazing Grace?
Guess what?? I'm so PROUD of Grace---she laid her first pullet egg today. (in the nest box just like a 'big girl'.) (at one point I didn't even know if she would live---now she's laying an egg!!!!) Is she good or what?

It's soooo tiny 1.20 oz. the smallest pullet egg I have ever gotten, so cute...color-wise it is about a oac151, but also kind of close to oac123 but darker and bluer, so if I had paint in those two colors and mixed 50/50, then it would be just about it.

Kathy I am soooooooo very excited for you and Grace! You have done a marvelous job with her, and it is just such a wonderful miracle that she is healthy and laid an egg right on schedule! WooHoo! I would totally blow that one out and save it :)

btw I can't wait to update your egg count this week!

Here is the cockerel:

This picture was taken in a particularly harsh morning sunlight....he is more colorful than this on the saddle and maybe the red extends a bit across his back more than shown in this picture...I just think that he is standing nicely, and -- showing off his feathers here.

Not to be out done...here's his sis:

She was trying out the nest box today -- rearranging wood chips and he was standing at the door way giving her encouragement.
Both outstanding birds..the Boy looks diluted enough on the hackels to pass like a Silver, the saddle look cream. what I´m not too sure about is the color of the crest. should it be also Cream colored or Silver? is some Chestnutt allowed on the crest?

Thank you. His crest is pretty much almost barred chestnut and light -- I think "some chestnut is allowed."

All my chickens - now and about all the chickens I have had, hold their tails at 90-degrees. They won't achieve a 45-degree angle, unless I'm holding them, or they are scratching around. This cockerel has a comb that traverses his head diagonally. It was very floppy and has straightened. Take heart people with floppy combed cockerels, they may just grow out of it. :O)

It just goes to show you -- you should enter that egg count contest if you are in the neighborhood of 24-weeks....

And your girl is going to be the next one in the virtual-neighborhood that will come into lay, I'll bet. The magic number is 24-weeks. Yep, I am going to save it -- I save all the 'first eggs' of my pullets. Pretty soon, I could decorate a tree with all the hollowed out eggs. Thanks.
