Just picked up 6 two-week old CL pullets from the post office today. Will be integrating them into our mixed flock in a few weeks once they are feathered and ready to go. Can't wait to see how these beauties grow! And, of course, my kids can't wait to see their blue eggs!
Sounds like you discovered Russell at Chickens Galore in Norco.Anyways, I live in Southern California - specifically the Los Angeles suburbs!
We have no hatcheries near us and rarely any breeders ):
I was lucky to find someone only 40 minutes away from me in Norco that had so many awesome breeds!
So when I got there I was expecting some sketchy place but oh my gosh, the facility was so clean and beautiful!
He had so many pens full of so many breeds! Off the top of my head: French Blue and Black Copper Marans, true Blue Ameraucana's, Speckled Sussex's,
Barnevelder's, Silver and Red Laced Blue Wyandotte's, Dark and Light Brahma's, Buff Orpington's, Australorps, Silkies, Cream Legbars and much more!
The best part is that they are all $15, except for the Blue Copper Marans, which are $20!
Lucky for me, he had one last Cream Legbar female chick left so of course I got her! I also bought a Blue Ameraucana and Red Laced Blue Wyandotte
but I'm going back there this weekend for another Cream Legbar, Barnevelder, and Blue Copper Maran![]()
I asked where he got his stock from and he said some man in San Diego who bred them for 30 years retired so he bought his flock.![]()
Wow, we go to the same two places! LOL!Sounds like you discovered Russell at Chickens Galore in Norco.
I'm a couple cities from you in SGV and I go to Wes's Pets and Feed in El Monte - he usually has a wide variety of hatching egg, chicks, and juveniles from May thru Sept - mostly he orders them from Privett in NM. I got a Dominique pullet from him last year.
But I've been intrigued by the feedback re: Chickens Galore because of the choice of ages of chickens one can choose from. Are your chicks from him Marek's vaccinated?
San Dimas Grain gets limited breed choices from Belt Hatchery and sell out quickly. Most feed stores around here have stopped selling chicks for now until next Spring.
What a pretty little girl! And it looks like she's got good auto sexing qualities (always makes me happy to see that).Hmm.. I believe my post was deleted? No idea why since I wasn't endorsing anyone..
