Your birds are really beautiful. To my eyes, they really look like they have the correct 'type'. Colors are great and they have the 45-degrees tail angle. Thanks for posting the pictures. How old is your rooster?

Taking a break - finally using a new wacom intuous stylus to adjust the rooster comb (it's been sitting in the box for months now). It's a little different from what I've used before so getting a bit frustrated with myself but I'll love it once I master it.

I agree, you have a nice little flock. Same question as ChickKat on the rooster age. The girls look young as they are slight looking and not as 'heavy' as the hens get when mature. I'm trying to breed away from the darker crest but your girl in front seems to have a nice cream hackle, the back girls seems more typical. . It'll be interesting to see what comes of this trio you could end up with some really nice chicks from him and that from girl. How old are your girls and how long have they been laying? When were you looking to swap? I'm sure you'll get some pm's as I myself am curious but want to stay away from shipped pullet eggs at this time. Also would depend on how far they're gonna ship. I'm not doing anything from California anymore...just does not work for me. Texas and the mid-west are my cut-offs for now.

This was taken last week.
Hazel and Opal (the more correct girl) were hatched 8/2/12. Walter was hatched 8/15/12. We got our first egg from Hazel 1/14/13 and Opal was 6 days later. I do not have a color chart but Opal eggs are slightly bluer where Hazels are a bit greener.

Excellent news. Say, are you still working on your rose comb Legbar project I read about? I am concerned about inevitable frostbite and was thinking that was a brilliant idea!
Yes, I am not publicizing it as much as before because some people don't agree with it. I'll be hatching chicks from those hens with the new legbar rooster around the same time. All the chicks will be autosexing but not all will be cream (some will still be light browns). From there, I'll keep the best colored rose combed birds and breed them this fall to another line which should throw all rose comb cream legbar style offspring. By next spring, I should have eggs or birds for sale since the color/type will be more stabilized.

Well, I want to keep hearing about it. :)
I will never give up my single-combed Cream Legbars -- they have my heart. But rose combs make so much sense for freezing Michigan winters. It's painful to see comb points blacken and die. Maybe someday I'll have both kinds, and be able to pamper the single-combed birds with just enough added heat to prevent frostbite.

you have already acheived auto sexing on your crossed birds. you have only had them a cpl years right.

I am glad you are forging on! What an ambitious project.

Since this breed is so new over here with such a limited gene pool, I suspect that a lot of folks are looking at the original English Standard and wanting to get as close to that as possible to that Standard. Thats a good thing when establishing the breed.

However, there are a lot of folks that personally like the look of the brightly colored males or that have a need for a smaller comb. Just like some breeds are getting project strains (Gold Laced Brahmas, Lavendar Ameraucana etc) that may one day be accepted into the standard for that breed, I suspect that some day there may be a standard for Cream Legbar, one for a Ginger-Cream Legbar (the ones with gold) and perhaps even a Rose Comb Cream Legbar.

Either way, I am happy that your project is moving forward and that you are having some luck! Do keep us posted as you progress.
