Fingers crossed for a good hatch!

Thanks! If its not too much trouble, would you mind crossing your toes too? I have have abysmal luck with shipped eggs. I seem to have a Eeyore cloud following me about and if something could go wrong--well it will for me. My hubby thinks I need to work in QA (quality assurance) testing products because I seem to be very good at finding the flaws no one else can!

So maybe spider-web should be amended to arroyo or maybe lightening-storm. There is also a detached air cell. I have not thrown it away cuz I am really bad about saving stuff:




I am skeptical that the egg is salvageable given that the crack extends beyond 180 degrees. Any experience with this sort of thing?

That is worse than I have managed to hatch out of, sorry. The ones I have been able to repair and hatch out were small star cracks. But you could give it a shot. Most likely (if it is viable) it will start developing and then blood ring when the embryo dies from bacterial seepage.

Not sure if this is directed at me or not?

I pre-ordered my eggs to arrive at the same week that I set eggs last year under a broody hoping that she would cooperate. Because of the late snow we got in April and the cooler temps, she has not gone broody *yet*. My hope is that she will still go broody in the next week or so and then I can sneak some of the eggs that are in the incubator under her and have her hatch at least some of them. Then I can graft anything that hatches in the incubator to her and let her raise them because [in no particular order] a) its so darned cute to watch a mama hen with her chicks and b) its so much easier than messing with the brooder in my house and c) I think the chicks grow faster and seem healthier getting all of the fresh air and exercise!

Yup. I've had low hatch rates on shipped eggs, except for the last batch, which were extraordinarily well-packed. Yet the other shipments were quite decently packed. My guess is that mailing, whether handled carefully or not, is just plain rough on eggs.

The reason I mention a broody is because my most successful hatch (3 out of 6) was done by one. Don't know if it was a factor or not.

At least you rec'd your eggs! I ordered from a guy in North Carolina - one state away - at the beginning of April and I'm still waiting for my eggs. He said he shipped them but lost the tracking number; they never arrived here. I even checked with my neighbors in hopes that they just went to the wrong address. Nope. I was promised a new batch April 24th after he sold a dozen he had listed on ebay and I'm STILL waiting. After MULTIPLE emails that have been ignored, I'm probably never going to see either eggs or my $$$. Hubby is now PO'd about my buying ANY eggs from online sellers. I am so sick of hearing it every other day and NOT happy.

That's a shame. Is there a way that you could use reputation on eBay to leverage some results? So sorry to hear about the problem.

. They are due to hatch on my 50th birthday so either I really will have something to celebrate or I will be having a really suck-y birthday. I'll keep y'all posted as the eggs develop....or not.

Hopefully you will have your happiest B-day ever, and lots of cute little chicks to celebrate it with you!

I'm new to chickens and purchased a used cabinet incubator with fan turner etc. And a hatcher a lil larger and its been about a few myths ago. I hatched a couple batches of mixed eggs from my own personal eggs my hens have laid. Now I'm hooked
So I've been tracking down breeds that I've seen n books. Or ones with different color eggs. I ordered loads of eggs and on mothers day I walked up to incubator after all festivities and noticed it had spiked to 150° so it killed all the embryos all 200+ eggs. Devastated the kids and but I found out how nice some people are. Offered condolences, advice, offered eggs at discount prices to help re-coop my losses. What I'm getting at is there are still good people in this world. And you can find them here. So just when I fixed the incubator, I have 6 hens go broody lol . Back to the drawing board and locate the eggs I want again lol go figure

I would pitch that egg, if it went bad either in the incubator or under a broody it could ruin your whole hatch. Not many things ickier than a broody covered with rotten egg.
