Cream Legbars

Thanks all for the info! I am in Wisconsin. I am just in love w/the color of the eggs and the breed seems like they are very docile and good free rangers which is what im looking for. Are there any other suggestions on breeds that would pair well with these?
I have my CL rooster with a wide variety of hens, he likes them all and tolerates a Lavender Ameraucana rooster. The CL hens have various places in the pecking order which includes BLRW, Marans, EE, OE, Ameraucanas, Australorps, Frizzles, Cochins, Jersey Giants, Mille Fleur Leghorns, other mixes...no silkies =)
In turn, I have CL hens with my Marans rooster, and they get along well with that group too.

I finally have 3 legbar chicks. They were hatched from shipped eggs 3 out of 6 hatched. 2 m 1 f. They are 9 days old. I have them together with 6 blue/black copper marans that were hatched at the same time. All are healthy. I noticed that the Cl are smaller than the marans. Do they catch up or will they stay smaller? Newbie here.

Welcome!
they will most likely remain smaller than the Marans. Congratulations on getting your CLs.

I spoke to a lady last night w/ CL's. I really am only interested in them for eggs & because I think they are neat looking. I'm not, at this time, looking to breed them. Anyways, she has some Barred Rocks that are 2.5months old for sale and she has one CL that she said is laying right now, a really nice bird, but she isn't "perfect" and she doesn't really care if that one stays or goes. So she said we could come up w/a price on her if I wanted one. She said something about its legs aren't as yellow or it's crest isn't as nice as she would like. My question is, this really doesn't matter if im just looking for eggs from it right?? I mean, at some point, when I have some more money to play with id like to maybe start w/some breeding, but right now. I just think they are neat birds and lay really pretty eggs. So, those slight flaws probably don't matter unless I would be breeding her correct???

At this point, I'm guessing few people in North America have Cream Legbars without more-or-less significant faults. It's a really new breed here and breeders have only had time for a few generations of improvements. (That's what makes them fun!)

I have some nice CL hens and then I have some not-so nice hens (gold hackles) ....sweet birds and I put those in my layer flock...I sell eggs and the customers love the blue eggs....nothing wrong with them but not breeding stock but excellent layers. Easy to take care off, doesn't require a lot of food and sweet! Get her and you will be hooked!

I have one hen, that is absolutely wrong in all aspects of SOP, but she is the sweetest of all my Creams. Follows me all over the yard, intently watching what I do.

We candled our eggs last night, day ten, just by putting the flashlight on the top of the egg. 14 of 15 had great veining and movement, the one had zero development. We are really excited for our first Cream hatch.

Follow ups. First of all some of you asked how I weigh my chickens. I bought a hanging fish scale on ebay. Then I cut an old vinegar bottle as shown below and poked a hole to stick the fish scale through. I hang it on a nail on the run wall, catch a chicken, and pop it in head first. I have also used this as an improvised kill cone. This worked fairly well for the Cream Legbars but not for my bigger breeds. I used a 5 gallon bucked for my Jubilee Orpington cockerel and he weighed in at 7.8 pounds! Weights for my female cream legbars ranged from 2.8 lbs on a pullet to almost 3.5 for my largest hen. My rooster weighed in at just under 5 lbs. Definitely have some work to do in the weight area but they aren't as bad as I feared. I did not weigh all the hens, I think I grabbed 5 total.

And it's been a few weeks since I've done update pictures. I have one gold pullet out of the group. Sorry to those who have download trouble with high photo volume. They are 6 weeks old today. I had two helpers today, hubby and my sister who is spending the weekend with us. Each photo set is band color, top view, chest view. I'm starting to see a difference in the intensity of their chest coloring.

Blue (still big- I'm going to have to change her band size this week)

Brown:

Green (THIS girl has definite gold hackles. She is heterozygous for the cream gene)

Orange (this was the black band chick)

Pink:

White:
