Cream Legbars

Hmm well they said they hatched on the 22nd August. It was only from a friend too who keeps chickens on a small scale so I have no reason to doubt them but I did think it looked older myself. Maybe they couldn't remeber exact date and guessed that one!!

Mine feathered pretty fast too maybe just over 2 weeks then.

great thanks for info! Phew! I'll relax a little now! Shes a little escape artist at the minute, my other half found her perched on the edge of the brooder box at midnight last night! Having to cover the top now!

I think CL pullets were in the 1963 movie "The Great Escape" with Steve McQueen and Richard Attenborough. They must have Houdini in their blood.....

I never actually seen the film! Thankfully I know what you mean! Maybe the littles were getting on her nerves! Think they're treating her a bit like a mother hen as shes so much bigger than them!! Not sure how easy its going to be to get her in at night once she in the big coop!

LOL - yes they are curious - and they are good flyers. I have some pullets that keep looking in their pen for higher and higher places to roost at night. Not my CLs but came home from a 24 hour trip to find that one of 7 Isbr chicks hand knocked the screen off the top of the brooder -- and 5 of the 7 were occupying the floor of the laundry room instead of being in the brooder where they belong. So typical of chicks when they get to that adventurous age. :O)

Hi all. I have my very first CL, shes 2 weeks old, i only got her a few days ago, I'm not experienced with this breed and want to be sure it is a girl! There is a few signs a crest is startimg to show. But I'm totally parinoid! I'm also in the UK and altho its a pure breed CL it isn't necessarily breed to standards... thanks for any help!

speedy2020 gave this link

"You may want to check this out in the middle of the page.

I just noticed how white the legs on the pouffy-crested pullet are. It doesn't have red face or comb development so it would look different as a grown hen - but at that age, the legs should be neon-yellow. Anyone with the Rees line have pullets/cockerels growing out with legs that aren't yellow? Just curious.

Also - for those who were expecting GFF to improve the breed rather than just hatch and sell - sounds from that link that they are working to breed toward the SOP...so kudos to Greenfire Farms

If you read the Draft SOP - you will notice that there are a number of places where chestnut is 'allowed' or 'permissible' - you can see it on the website...therefore if it is allowed -- then a bird with chestnut in an allowed place is definitely up to standard.

Add to that have seen numerous folks both at poultry show and in real life that find the cockerel with chestnut on his feathering more attractive.

Oh yea, and guess what -- there is a slightly tweaked version of the DRAFT SOP from the CL Club that is ready for publication.....it will be out in the upcoming newsletter. It is the identical draft with some wordsmithing - the basics won't change IMO.
:O)
