Cream Legbars

JR hen #1: yes, she has a salmon breast. (It's so hard to get good color representation, she is actually better colored than any of my pics). She's the best of the 2 JR girls, and considerably more substantial than JR #2 or the 4 Line D' girls @ 19.5 weeks.

MG]. Here is JR #2. She is the smallest of JR #1 and the 4 Line D's. I have my concerns that she is really a JR. (I would think JR would have bred out GOLD like this a long time ago). An inbred "crop-out", perhaps? Lol.

Here's JR roo at 19.5 weeks (w/ 4 line D and my homebred girls). He's bigger -wider/taller/more substance- than the Line D roo or my previous roo's. More of a crest than my previous boys. Tail set is better than the other roos I've had (it's higher here than usual cuz I'd been chasing him around the pen to get his pic) ... Still needs work, tho. I'm pretty happy w/ him except for that and his WONKY COMB. He should cross nice w/ the 4 Line D's and my 4 best homebred girls. 2 of the Line D's started laying this week: 19.5 weeks old! But I live in South south south TX and it's still 85 degrees here and longer days than you Northerners.

What cute chicks...Thanks for posting their pictures... You will have a lot to select from.  Does you cockerel have a crest?  it looks like all the others have nice ones.  IMO Cream Legbars go through so many changes...that they are like a kaleidoscope.  We all need to post lots of pictures more frequently.  Love the picts.

Welcome to the Cream Legbar threads!

Thank you. Yes, he does have a small but definite crest. I'm hoping it stays on the smaller side so we have a better chance of a straight comb (at least I think that's how it works, still have so much to learn.....).

@sweetdreaming Your JR birds are looking great. I feel like my JR Trio is looking so young and taking a long time to mature. Maybe I an off on their ages though.

I really like your JR #2 girl, more so than JR #1. She may be smaller but I love her coloring and she has a nice round breast good back and so far an ok tail angle. She doesn't look gold to me, her neck head and crest look cream in color, like the color everyone seems to describe as pale butter, and her breast looks much more salmon than #1 also her back and wings look gray/cool in tone. The colorfulness aroung her face is chestnut which is permissible. I like her. And Your cockerel is looking very nice also. It looks like you have some good qualities to work with.

edited to change the in bold (originally typed#2, meant to type to #1) sorry if there was confusion.

Can you say what you do and do not like about them?

I only have 3 JR birds and they are still so young and I didnt raise them from day olds. I also can only compare them to my current flock of CL so its hard to make a comparison only small personal judgments. As mentioned above they "seem" smaller to me than my current CL and also "seem" slower to mature. The JR cockerels comb is wonky and sweeps/falls over his eye. he is still very young to judge but he seems like he is going to have a little more chestnut on him than I would like in areas that I would like to see more cream/gray and it seems like the JRs earlobes are less pendant shaped and more like a long skinny stripe . The JR pullets so far I have only noted the coloring, they seem to have the salmon/chestnut color throughout there entire bodies and wings though that is not very uncommon in CL as a whole anyhow. All my judgments are just that, a personal judgment between my current CL and my three JR CL. I would likely note some of these same differences in our older lines also so I don't think it is JR specific. CL have a lot of work that needs to be done.

I think everyone looking to get JR birds either is or were expecting something fantastic and consistent with them. But they seem,to me, that they are still a work in progress like many of our flocks and we should not expect to get perfect birds from this line, only try to use our best judgment when pairing these birds up to eventually/hopefully make off spring we might consider close to perfect.

Edited to add what I like about them :) They have great personalities, friendly, laid back and so far very quiet. I also like the cream color that the pullets are displaying also they seem to have nice long backs and good tail angles so Im excited to work with them.

Sweetdreaming, your JR cockerel -- looks like the poster-boy roo on GFF site IMO
