Cream Legbars

Also I would like to mention, because I asked about it a while back. Don't be too quick to cull young cockerels and pullets that have yellow earlobes. I had a cockerel and a pullet that were on my automatic cull list due to yellow lobes (I specifically and personally don't want yellow lobes in my flock) Well I held on to the 2 of them so I could see how they mature. And as it happens as they reached about 6months of age they both showed the yellow vanishing. They now both have beautiful pure white earlobes. It may not be the case for all yellow lobed CL. But it can happen so it they otherwise look nice but have yellow lobes, wait to see how the earlobes might change as they mature.

Look what I got today! Ha, I guess I should have kept my complaining to myself for another day. I found it outside in front of the coop in the mud. Must have come as a surprise. Two pictures in bad lighting. One makes it look green and the other blue. I don't have an OAC yet. But it is pretty and I am excited!

OH YAY!!!!!! Congrats to you!

Amazing how the color looks SO different in different lighting, such a difference. In real life to your eyes does it look greener or bluer?

Thanks, it is always so exciting to find the first eggs. Hopefully she can get closer to the nest box next time.

What is really weird is that those two pics are taken consecutively with my iphone. The only difference is that I put a paper towel under the egg and over the cutting board for the second picture. To my eye, it does not look as blue as it appears in the first picture. But I would call it more blue than green. How is that for a definitive answer! I had to laugh because when that color spectrum test was going around I did horribly on the the blue/green part. So it really could be any color, lol.

That's interesting. I haven't had yellow earlobes in my CL's, but I have had incomplete white that shows some pink.
I have Mille Fleur Leghorns with very yellow earlobes. Their mixed CL offspring show white.
In fact, I have some other non-CL mixes that are so far removed from the original breeds, and yet they have the most beautiful white earlobes…I wish the CL's had that same trait.

With regards to the olive egger question, of course the F1's will be single for blue and single for brown eggshell genes. Working towards double blue and double brown with my flock, so we'll see where that ends up. I think the rooster is the most difficult part of the equation because you have to grow him out and then breed him and wait for his pullets to start laying to know if he is double for anything…there is someone in California that was working on double olive eggers, and maybe auto-sexing as well...

My favorite little CL pullet seems to be missing

I couldn't find her at lock up last night(and she is never out of place, has never even left her fenced area).

Skimming the yard outside I still see no signs of her. I have no idea where should could have gone off too. I hope I can find her. She is showing very good potential and I was excited to put her with my main CL male come Spring.

Ill keep looking, heading outside now.

edited to add- I see no sign of her any where, I have looked all over. I fear something took her. I am really, really bummed right now.

I spoke too soon. My dogs were just barking and I went to look outside and there she was on the far side of my yard opposite the chicken yard in the woods. YAY
