Congratulations!!! Looks like a very nice size for a pullet egg. Did you weigh it? And the perennial question -- how old is the pullet?

ETA - oh yeah - and if you have an OAC what color is it near? Have to add -- I love it when the eggs have saturation like that!

It is a decent size pullet egg. She is roughly 32-33 weeks old. The color is a little green. Looking at the OAC the color is very close to oac122.

edited to add- no I didnt weigh it. I don't have an egg scale yet :(

ME TOO!!!!

A lot of times my CL that do lay blue are soooo powdery blue they are nearing white lol. I was shocked to see the deep color when I looked in the nest box. Bummed its on the green side, but sooooo overly excited.

Now to let her lay for about a month or so, so I can start a few test hatches on the Rees line. Since I only have the trio I have no need to wait until they are fully mature to start hatching. I cant wait to see what they produce.

Yay! So pretty and big! That looks to be similar to the colors I am getting and I need to get an OAC. Two are laying a blueish green egg and one is laying a greenish blue egg. Still have one to start laying. Are you buried in snow? Keep seeing pictures of giant snow piles in your area. Meanwhile we had a high of 60 the other day, all the snow is gone and the chickens think it is spring!

We have TONS of snow. And we are expected to get more snow late tonight through tomorrow night. I don't mind it too much. Makes it a little more difficult to do the outside animal chores but we love the snow otherwise.

I've been reading the conversation about uneducated or unscrupulous sellers with interest. I think it is an unfortunate fact in the animal world and really in all aspects of any marketplace. Some people are unethical and some people just don't know or care enough to educate themselves.

As a newbie buyer I did not do enough to educated myself when I bought, but I got fairly lucky and ended up with some middle of the road stock. At least they are recognizable CL and I have something to work with. I understand the excitement of just going out and there and purchasing, but in my opinion it should always be buyer beware. You can't control what the sellers put out there you can only control what you spend your money on. And I am not saying that in judgement of anyone that gets swindled or not what what they are hoping since I did exactly the same thing!

Perhaps because it is a "new" breed and because things are still in development but I have other breeds and by far this CL group on BYC has been the most welcoming and the most educational. Thanks everyone!

I love snow too despite the fact that it does make animal care more difficult and time consuming. You just can't beat a great snowfall, hope you can get the skis out and have a little fun!
