Cream Legbars

Anyone have any interest in some CLB capons? I have 6 I've done so far (all humanely done) as an experiment to compare them to intact boys I'm growing out to eat. But honestly I don't eat that much farm raised chicken (the store bought is just so good and cheap *hangs head in shame* ). So if anyone has any interest in them as pets I would let a few go just so I could see how they matured. Vaccinated for Mareks. They are a Rees rooster over line D hens.

Fairly obscured but the cream is coming in on her hackles a bit as she ages about 18 weeks.

Hi Caychris,

I've found that the cream is clearly evident much earlier than what you are seeing. If anything, it becomes obscured later by dark hackles. Do you have a close up? Do you think she might be gold?

I agree. To me she looks gold (not cream) hackled as well.

Question regarding raising males.....

Has anyone noticed a difference in the comb development in males raised with females versus males raised with other males? It may seem a bit absurd...but I think that males with a lot of males tend to have worse combs..or is that just cooincidence?

It would kind of have to apply to people with very small flocks/trios -- having males with good combs -- versus people with a pen of males -- having some good combs and some not so good. It is kind of a numbers question in a way. Anyone have a view to share?

Actually I'd like to learn about caponization. Are your capons bigger than the intact boys? Do they crow?

2nd hybrid hatch, some lovely dark pattern chicks with nice eye liner. Can anyone tell me if these chicks are autosexing as im getting two distinct colours, dark striped chicks as here and yellow chicks. Are the dark ones likely to be female?

What is the cross and which breed was the male . I am thinking wheaten may be involved due to the very light color . Try this thread also .https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/825092/cream-legbar-hybrid-thread/2270#post_15504881

I've had both combos in small flocks, and the comb size just seems to be genetic. Although I think the combs get more beat up when it's a bunch of cockerels together.

I have a group that's about 3 months old, evenly split males and females; they are not all from the same breeding groups. The most variation in comb size is between brothers. The time of year doesn't seem to have an affect in my area, but we don't have big temperature swings as compared to some areas.
