what does everyone think, the only thing i can see is a slight white spot on the more golden chicks head. Other than that no distinguishing features, these chicks have angry faces! Whats that about?

What is the cross ? They look like dominant white crosses . That would give you white chicks with a colored spot like I see on the back of one . If you used a CL rooster the white head spot means nothing as far as sex . As all chicks would have 1 barring gene . I see no angry faces .

Theyre crossed with goldlines and another red hybrid. The rooster is a very white cl. So do you think they will come out light? Haha, in comparison to the gosling and quail chicks, they have stern faces. So theres no identifying mark one these chicks?

Yes they should turn out light . No identifying marks .

Im pretty sure we have talked about this before because I do recall asking last year or the year prior, but how do we feel about iridescent green/blue sheen on some feathers? I noticed a few of my juvies have a couple of shiny green feathers on the body and a few of them have a green sheen on the dark gray bars on the sickle feathers. I am thinking they will molt out but would love to hear feed back as I cant recall past discussions.

I dont know enough to comment but have not noticed it on anything that didnt have Black feather in my flock

Could be a function of the Black actually being blue but id just be guessing

Lost the second chick that I assisted out today. Just a failure to thrive scenario. Always undersized and slower development. Didnt make it to 3 weeks. Im done helping them out lesson learned. (the hard way) I gave them a chance at life but I think they were just not up to it. With such poor hatch rates I figured the chance was worth it. Sad as it is it doesnt discourage from having a breeding flock.

I have helped out chicks in the three hatches I have done. Most made it and lived and thrived. It appeared to me they just ran out of energy to finish hatching. I was very careful in helping, but don't think they would have made it out without the help. I waited until they had been trying for about a full day or more before interfering. Kern

This is a touchy subject, but I too help chicks sometimes. I have one hen that lays round eggs, not at all egg shaped. They are very fertile and the chicks peck all around but can't seem to break through the membrane, so I end up helping a lot of them and (so far) all have done very well. If this was not a valuable project and the only hen that is laying at all, I would not set her eggs any more, but alas I must hatch them and help them out.

That experience has emboldened me to help other chicks as well - not always with such good results, but it works enough of the time to make it worth trying when I know it won't get out on it's own.

Everyone has their own opinions about this and I understand and respect the arguments to never help a chick. In the end, we must do what we feel is right.
