Cream Legbars

I will be there as well! Hopefully I'll be able to bump into you to say hi! Always great to meet people with much more wisdom than me in a subject I love.
I hope they have some Lavender birds.. I've been really wanting to add anything Lavender to my flock!

If you can have roosters I could offer you a two year old lavendar Ameraucana, he is great with kids. I wasn't planning to work with this breed, but I kept him when I sold his sisters just because he is so nice. Now I could use some more room for Cream Legbars…I am also planning to be at the Ventura show, there are lots of nice people although they are greatly outnumbered by poultry =) If you are looking for Walt, start around the bantam Black East Indies Ducks =)

That is a gorgeous egg, whatever color you call it! My CL lays a light sky blue egg (like the CL above lower left) but I would love one like the one on top's saturation. I have 2 Wheaten Ameraucanas that will be laying in the next few weeks and I'm curious to see how their eggs compare to my CL's. I personally would love the blue-green shades, my favorite colors.

Sol2Go, where are you in SoCal? I'm from Tustin originally but have lived in Santa Barbara (college), LA, San Clemente and most recently Oceanside before moving to Washington state in 2014.

Hope to see pics when your Wh. Am's reach POL. When I first got CL's I had to adjust my expectations to the range of blues that they tend to lay, and now I really enjoy them all because there is a little variety.

I'm in Palos Verdes, sounds like you enjoyed coastal living too. Are you still coastal in Washington or more inland? How's the weather in your area? We have some friends that recently moved from Texas to Washington because they prefer cool, cloudy weather (maybe not smokey…) and were trying to get away from the heat and humidity. @ChicKat also spent some time in SoCal, but she's in Texas now =)

Wow, we go to the same two places! LOL!

Of my flock of 18, 5 are from some breeder in West Covina, 3 are from Russel, and the rest are from Wes!
I live about 10 minutes away from Wes's Pets and Feeds in Baldwin Park!

I just stopped by San Dimas Grains last week and they didn't have any baby chicks..
But they're my new go to for everything! The dog foods brands they carry make my heart happy!
My dog is now on Orijen and they're only 20 minutes away from me!

We must be neighbors! Or at least really close to each other!
Feels good to know someone on here from my neck of the woods

Did you buy any breeds from Russell? I was thinking on getting another Cream Legbar, a Barnevelder, and the Blue Cuckoo Maran!
Did you ever ask him where he got his stock from? I feel like he doesn't want to tell me ):

I'm surprised you have so many chickens. An employee at Shakey's BP said BP City doesn't allow them or she would have them. You must be in County rather than City section like we are.
Wes's is closer to you than us. We're right in between San Dimas Feed and Wes's so we have a choice but I prefer SD for supplies. Wes's chicks aren't Marek's vaccinated so don't think I'll buy chicks from him again. My Dom pullet from him had a sudden seizure and died. The Privett chicks he orders are nice quality but he doesn't order them vaccinated. My neighbor used to pick up her chicken supplies in Whittier/La Habra - probably Kruse Feed?

I stop at Pet Palace in Covina for a quick pickup of nesting straw or some emergency bird seed but they are too small to carry a wide variety of supplies or organic. In Spring they have RIR and BR chicks for sale. Like most nice small shop owners they will order anything I want but I don't feel like making one trip to order and a 2nd trip to pickup.

I have never bought from Russell. I read the BYC thread on Chickens Galore which is how I learned about him and the majority of reviews were favourable and so were the yelp reviews - there's always one or two unfavourable reviews but mostly good ones. I wonder if Russell does Marek's vaccinations in the first 48 hrs after hatch which is what's recommended. I read one review that said they returned to have their birds vaccinated so I couldn't figure why they had to return since the chicks have to be vaccinated preferably at day-old.

A CL and Barnie sound nice. I had a smooth-legged Cuckoo Maran and she was nasty to my other chickens and had to re-home her but she did lay some fertile eggs which our neighbor hatched under a broody - 3 baby pullets and 2 feather-legged Cuckoo cockerels. Our two Leghorns got aggressive toward our Silkies and the gentle Ameraucana so had to re-home the Legs too (one was White and one was a rare Buff) - so sad because they were great layers. In all my farm days and backyard chickeneering I have never had a better white egg layer than White Legs but they are not touchy-feely pets like a Silkie and sometimes will turn bullies toward gentle breeds.

Since I never spoke with Russell I have no idea where his stock comes from but most customers appear happy with his birds. If you go back to get more birds from him can you let me know if he breeds Dominiques?

Well my 28 week old CLB cockerel tried to attack me today. I had let him free range a bit since he had been cooped up. We have a processing tomorrow so Im thinking of processing him now.

I think the fact that I was petting the girls who were squatting before me may have had something to do with it. With all his other faults any aggressive behavior will have him end off the freezer camp.

As much as it is a tough choice, it is probably a good choice.

H Ashley and Sol2Go -

Yes I moved to Texas from Desert Hot Springs -(loved it) - to DHS from Oceanside (loved it)--- Laguna Hills, Stayed with a friend in Bell Gardens -- once worked at Disneyland and lived in Anaheim, Garden Grove, College in Thousand Oaks --Lived at Laguna Beach - (you Know how you moved around a lot back-in-the-day. ) When I worked for PeopleSoft I used to fly Carlsbad-LA- then Oakland or SF and spent tons of time in Pleasanton - (very pleasant...love it there too)-Then moved to DHS and flew out of Palm Springs-- I think that is most of my CA Itinerary. When I was a consultant I was only home on Weekends -- so I spent a ton of time at PeopleSoft HQ before going out on the road to everywhere - Ireland, England, Amsterdam, Japan, PNW, Chicago land, Louisiana, Utah, Las Vegas --- fun times-- travel 100% of the time.

Ashley - I was surprised that BP allows chickens too. That is very cool actually.

I'm pretty sure Chickens Galore vaccinates first day and then offers a booster. My friend has also taken her chickens purchased elsewhere to C.G. to be vaccinated.
fyi - there is a vet in my area that will vaccinate for Marek's, reasonable rates. She has also taught me how to do it, but sometimes I just prefer to take them in.

I suppose you didn't have chickens when you traveled that much! Hope you enjoy being settled now =)
