Cream Legbars

Well, I finally finished the coop yesterday, and I met ChicKat last night to take custody of little Dumbledore (he was sleepy - so was I, actually!). (So cool to meet in person, BTW! Even if it was in a motel parking lot...) He was installed in his quarantine coop in the dark without too much fuss. This morning, he crowed right at sun up - he has the most delightful little musical crow (I hadn't realized how much I missed that since my neighbor's rooster was killed). Not to be outdone, Paula got high up on a roost in the coop, faced east, puffed out her chest, and bwak bwak bwaked as loud as I've ever heard her, as if to say "See, I'm louder than you" (which she actually was). I think she got a sort of smug satisfaction about that (never mind that she's almost 10 weeks older than he is...). She's a sassy queen, no doubt about it... Pics below. Dumbledore is SO beautiful in the sunlight - I love Cream Legbar cockerels/roosters. I have a few more things to do on the new coop (building nest boxes, better feeder/waterer system, cover hardware clothes apron with soil) - but I'm so wiped out, I might need to take a break today. A trip to the feed store may be about as much as I can do. - Ant Farm
He is cute!!! And I like you coop!

Fire Ant Farm -

You did a beautiful job on that coop -- and Dumbledore is one VERY FORTUNATE cockerel in more ways than one. It was funny, I explained our transaction to the night clerk (manager) at the motel - and when I checked out this morning she was still there -- Now I'm 'the chicken lady'. LOL - You would be the other chicken lady if we were ever to meet up there again. Today the water well got fixed at that part of the ranch -- so I will be making my round-trips to the ranch without an overnight elsewhere.... This was the best opportunity for him to come to you! Little cockerel was in transit for about 6 hours with our combinded driving....

For everyone...it is so enjoyable (as I'm sure some of you know ) -- to meet up with your fellow CL fanciers -- neat to meet a person you have been talking to on line.

Yeah, he looks pretty smug there...and he is kind of full-of-himself. Once he gets over his travel and his newness he will be strutting around like he owns the palce -- He will happily be your alarm clock in mornings. His sisters are still wondering where he is....

Love how he is turning out! 5 weeks old, too bad I can't keep him :/.

So everyone....I found out my hens are GFF Alsteirer hens.....they look similar to CLB hens especially when they are first hatched so....it was a mix up!!

Good detective work, and something new I'll have to look up.
Will you be able to forego firing up the brooder? Sometimes just the thought of new chicks is hard to shake…and I wonder why it's so hard to break my broody hens...

Did you post any picturers of them? You made me really curious - and now I need to go to GFF to look at picts of Alsteirer -- Hopefully they will make it right for you and send you what you ordered? If you need CL hatching eggs-- contact folks in the CL Club. JMO -- and get a fall hatch of CLs. Best of luck with your plans!
