Cream Legbars

I recently picked up 3 CCLs. I got two day old pullets and 1 two week old with questionable auto sexing who appears to be a roo.
Of the two pullets although the same size, one seemed a little puny in the beginning. I try not to interfere with nature too much and left her alone. She did fine. She has been with the other 2 CCLs and 2 Ameraucanas since picked them up.
I am ready to move them to the coop after 30 day quarantine.
Here is my question. She seems tiny! The others have developed and grown at a similar rate. The other one day old pullet is twice her size. They are out from under heat as of 2 days ago. She has handled it great. She is active. She is just so tiny! Should I be concerned?

Hi goldie,

welcome to CLs. So you have two pullets that are about 31-days old? Would you like to have me give you some sample weights by age for CLs from the CL Club's website 'chick weight tracking'?

as you can see they range in weight at that age from 1/4 to around 3/4 pounds for most. In all liklihood the heavier ones are the males. The exceptionally heavy chick weights at the beginning of this list -were actually 3 that I had that hatched Christmas of 2013. The one -pounder at that 5th week was a female the other two were males. Something about that hatch -- the feed that they were getting, the environment, the temperatures and lighting made they grow like weeds. they were the 'prize winners' no one has entered heavier chicks at that age... including myself. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances and the fact that none of them were destined to be breeders they were all processed. I think part of it was the 'Manna Pro' feed that they got. They were remarkable growers.

Hope this will help you a bit to compare your chicks weights.
:O)

I have the same problem. I have 3 cockerels and 6 pullets all 8 weeks old. All are growing nicely except 1 who appears healthy and happy just much smaller. I also noticed her crest isn't developing as quickly as her sisters. Fingers crossed she will catch up.

Ty he's named Maverick and already a lady's man. I had good hopes for him but his buddy Merlin is putting him to shame this week. Is that your rooster in the pic? He is beautiful.

So very sorry you lost her after nearly a year.

No one ever warns you of the pain that comes with chicken keeping when you loose them. Like Sol2Go & Redbanks said do't get too discouraged -- chickens do have a way of dying on you........-- I hope when you are ready that you will consider getting another CL. Good for you getting the necropsy. -- If you don't mind, let us know what they tell you - once you find out.

Thanks, ChicKat. Got the results of Angel's necropsy today. She apparently had an intestinal blockage with renal gout likely secondary to the lack of fluids as a result of the intestinal blockage. There was apparently no grit in her gizzard, which is odd since she had constant access to grit. She also did not have a normal formed ovary, so I guess she would have never lain any eggs, although she was a pet, so that doesn't matter. The blockage was plant material, so I now feel guilty for feeding greens and fruit. Maybe if she had only eaten pellets she would have not gotten blocked. I guess we do the best we can, but in hindsight, I should have trusted my gut and realized there was something wrong sooner. We do miss her, but if the breed as a whole is as curious and fun as she was, I will certainly be looking for another CL in the future.

How adorable!! Congrats! If you don't mind me asking, where did you get them? :)
Also, if she is healthy, eating/drinking normally, she should be fine. Not all chickens are the same! Just make sure she is eating/drinking!
