Cream Legbars

They wanted to name all of them after ponies after I agreed to the 2 names, lol. So now I will have to name 1 of their chicks Twilight. I'm going back to GOT names

.
Now GOT is something I recognize.

My Jenny was late in starting to lay, but has really made up for it. Her eggs are bluer than those of the other girls, and they are now the biggest. She gave me this big pretty light blue egg today, 57 grams (just over 2 ounces). Good girl!

Here are some eggs I gave as a housewarming gift today, laid over the past couple days - Lissa's are most saturated, and as time goes by, the green is less and less pronounced (maybe their "brown" is running out):

SO SO SO happy with the egg production and quality from these girls!!! (Dumbledore would say that he helped a lot - he keeps them safe and makes sure they get all the treats when I give them - he won't eat a single one himself, just tidbits for the girls.)

I'm starting to really look forward to spring hatch...

Those are beautiful eggs! And yes you are right, as the laying season goes on the eggs become paler before they are renewed during the molt. The first eggs of the season are always the best!

Actually what I meant is that Lissa and Paula's eggs started out more greenish blue, and they are becoming less green and more blue...

I have sweet potatoes from my garden (dug up this week) that aren't big enough to eat myself - they have loved them as treats (controlled portions, of course). I have marigold petals, and a recipe for "homemade" flock block (from The Chicken Chick) - I find myself wondering if it'll have any subtle effect on the blue saturation (per that article on biliverdin in eggshells)...

That's because the eggs' shells are blue so dont change colour much throughout the season but the coating of brown (which creates the green colour) does fade during the season resulting in more blue eggs :)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. Bummer with Marans, bonus with CLs that lay greenish eggs.
