I think it might just be a coincidence or something particular to your birds. Mine are all dark and they have varying crest sizes. Something else that I am working to standardize a bit with my group!I am so glad you said this, I though I was losing touch with reality!
I do not know if you noticed or not, but my little white sport has a fair crest on it too.
I think it has more to do with the lines. I'm pretty sure the smaller crested lighter girls are from a different parent group than the darker bigger crested girls. Mine are A and B groups, and that pretty hen is a C line isn't she? But, I may also be speculating. Tbh I have never been the best record keeper, and participating in these forums is a way to kick my own butt into doing it right instead of just winging it. I want to be better at keeping track, knowing, and doing better at my birds. Someday, probably years away, I would like to show. But that's a long ways.

I did notice that my 2 darker pullets have bigger hairdos (at the moment) than my lighter pullet, although when she hatched the light one had the biggest crest.
And my theory lives on!
