Gender assistance please- middle chick has odd coloring. Darker than all of the for-sure cockerels, darker overall than pullets too.

The two on the left are both girls from what I can see, chipmunk stripes are not great but I think I see them. the spot is within a V, it has eye liner. That said, it is a hard one to tell on. But I lean to girl.

Maybe they bleached it... :p

I did notice that my 2 darker pullets have bigger hairdos (at the moment) than my lighter pullet, although when she hatched the light one had the biggest crest.

I have 2 girls with really nice crests. One is very dark (my Stormy) the other is very light (My Luna). I'll have to get some good pictures of them sometime soon. My gold hen (Sky) has a decent crest and my other light hen (Cher) has a miniscule crest lol. My nice light cockerel also had a miniscule crest.

Just throwing in my observations here.

I have a bunch of babies growing out. They're about 7 weeks old now I think. Some of them look like they're going to have some really nice crests. Of course, most of them are boys :/

Always making life interesting -- Here is a differing viewpoint.
to me middle chick says 'male' Here's why to my eye -- The stripes on the left chick -- very bright and almost have a dark edge to the ultra light stripe. The little white she has on her head is well contained iwthin the dorsal stripe. -- Middle chick to me looks like his white is more than the female type dab -- and pushes out of the dorsal stripe -- He also doesn't have continuation from the beak down the back -- but a break at the back of the neck.... To me his dorsal stripes are diffused.

Hmm,,, I see what your saying, but I am still leaning girl. I would not put that one into a breeding rotation either, it would move to the EE layer chicks pen.

Top is a very dark male I hatched. Middle is all pullets, also very dark. Bottom is a variety basket of cockerel down appearances. I want to say your middle guy looks... Like an argument. Hey do you have a more clear pic of the backside? My phone isn't giving me a real great view

Probably easy for me to recognize because I have that down pattern in males......:O)

You really do have the spectrum in that basket -- and I agree that your two top picts show a lot of influence from dark pigment..... Good picts, good observations.
