Cream Legbars

The only well-reputed person that I know has eggs right now is Richard Jordan with Jordan Farm, screen name Pampered Poultry. He is a little back ordered (2-3 weeks) but everyone else I have spoken to that I would consider getting eggs from is out- lost a hen, hens molting, etc.

Richard is great. I got my first cream legbars from him back in february. Then I have added to my flock with birds direct from GFF. Richard is always a pleasure to do business with and has great birds.

Not even 24-hours old and she already has him eating grasshoppers. Ick.

Robin picked up and dropped this disgusting thing a couple of times and the next thing I know the baby swallows it. Difficult to see...maybe if you click the picture, but in the baby's beak - grasshopper. (blurry because it is a frame cut from a video).....

]My legbar hen laid her first egg today - yay! However, the shell was quite soft and she laid it while on the roost. Oops. Anyone else have 1st eggs with soft shells? Is this something that should fix itself as she figures things out or should I be fired up about giving her more calciu? . She has oyster shell readily available. I also assume she will figure out when they are coming in the future and make her way to the nest box with the other hens.

It is very common for a pullets first eggs to be "off"- soft shelled, missing shell, yolk-less, etc. As their reproductive system works the kinks out it will settle down. I would wait until a few more eggs come before you worry about it.
