Creating a pasture from dirt

you will have to water and exclude them (with those orange nets in traffic areas) when you seed your pasture, but there are lots of drought resistant plants that are good forage. sorghum is too large a plant for them, also toxic until tall. But you can plant teff, various millets, amaranth, cowpeas, okra, there are many cover crops that will suit your needs. possibly rotate them in paddocks. the greenery will attract sufficient bugs too.

We bought pasture grass , but we don’t live in the dessert. I agree with first comment, my chickens destroyed a 60x40 foot run in 30 days.. grass is overrated they love the bugs and the dust!! Good luck and have fun
