Hi I am sure its on the forum somewhere but cant seem to find it.How do you get a coronation sussex,I have a couple light sussex bantam pullets what would I need to put them to for coronation?

I have a pair of Coronation Split Sussex that should start laying within the next 4 months. I will start hatching then and will be selling my excess Roo's if your interested in one.

If you start with the Coronation Roo, you will get Coronation faster than with a split bird. I should have both Coronation and Split available.

I also read somewhere about breeding to a Lavender, but that would take awhile. You would breed for color first, then you would have to start breeding for type again.

I think the OP is in the UK, and has bantam Sussex. Not the standards we have here in the US.

So I would guess you'd need to find a bantam lavender bird to introduce the lav coloring. Preferrably one with white legs for starters. Maybe one of the genetics gurus can help you out.

I would worry about the roo squashing the bantam pullets LOL! Unless you want to do AI on them would be the way to go and keep one of the sons from this resulted breeding and go from there. Get a heir and a spare in case one dies.

Form what read on here the true UK Coronation Sussex are a Blue Silver Columbians they used the Blue gene (Bl) to create that variety.
Now there is a Coronation Sussex that uses the Lavender gene (lav) but like I said the True UK Coronation Sussex are a Blue Silver Columbians.

I would love to be able to buy something from you Cammy but like Keesmom says I am in UK.I have searched everywhere in UK but none to be had thats why I would like to try and make some,If only it was easy to buy and sell birds between countries

Hi,
To make Blue Columbian Sussex in the UK you need to introduce the Blue gene, suitable sources would be the Splash versions of Blue Orpington or Blue Australorp or Blue Faverolles bantams. Cull all cockerels from the first mating. All your pullets should be Blue, mate them to a Light Sussex male. Cull all cockerels and non blue pullets, retain Blue pullets & mate them to a Light Sussex male. Repeat this until you have birds of a good type, then use both sexes. Should take about 4 to five generations.
