I've never owned a home! Or applied for one!
I've never lived in any of those places!

What springs to mind is those credit places that figure stuff out for you.... I could contact one of those, right? I can't do this on my own.. it wont even give me my report without this info.
So, what's a good credit figuring out place??

I'm maaaad!!

The questions you listed is a format used for "verifying" who you are. Filing a police report won't necessarily help you unless you have some specific information.

The website you went to, may not be the best one to use to get your annual free credit report.

MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE is this: you will find a plethora of GOOD information on this site. There are very knowledgeable people that can help you: www.creditboards.com. Just post that you are new, what your issue/question is and they will send you on a GOOD path!

Good luck!

Squishy,

What site did you go to to check your credit? If it was annual credit report.com then you may not be able to accesss it again for a year without paying. Maybe you could try going to your bank for help checking it.
Those do sound like the security questions I had to answer when I last checked mine. Also if a loan is listed on your report that is not yours, it might just be an error, that can be fixed.
I would get a hardcopy of all three reports, and check them closely, then if there are inaccuracies on them contact the credit agency to see how to go about fixing it.

Those are the security questions. If the correct answer is NA on all of them, and you are denied access, then it's pretty much stated you've had ID theft. You do have to clean it up. Even if you don't want to have credit cards or anything, credit is pulled for things like starting utilities, car insurance in some states etc. Usually the questions have a mix of NA and truth pulled from your report.

You'll need to get your SSN card, and then start working with the credit reporting companies - TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. You'll want to file a dispute for all three of them immediately. It will take time and patience, but they should clear your credit with proof. Might need to gather around your birth certificate and other proof of identity in the mean time, as it will be needed.

I think it was just a security question. I have gotten past those questions for my dh,but was unable to get certain(out of the 3) reports online because I forgot what ID/password I had used. He had to call or mail in stuff so he called and got the report. I recent did a credit freeze and to *thaw* those you have to pay whatever it is the state you live in requires. For my state it is $5 per credit reportiong agency to freeze or thaw. Have you tried getting a report from one of the other 3? I might get blocked from one,but then was able to get an online report from a different one....all done through annual credit report.

Sorry if someone did indeed use your SS for fake cresit!

Ditto to Booker... I've checked mine before and had similar questions but all my stuff matched stuff that actually happened before... so like Booker said, if none of those applies and you hit N/A for each and it claims that's wrong it means at least one of those items has been listed in as being true when it isn't... definitely needs checking out, I just donno how you'd go about it if it won't let you access anything.

The site KlaHaYa mentioned sounds like a good start though.

This same thing happened to my was band back when we first married. We had been turned down for an apt rental because of a outstanding mortgage loan on his report. No way was it his. Turns out it was an error with the credit reporting companies(yup all three)
They had a M Carter's info on his reports. Funny since his mothers name was Mary. But it wasnt even his mother! It was a woman that we had actually lived down the street from when we were in Maine.
It took over two months to fix it. I now get my credit report annually to keep an eye on it. And have reported discrepancies several times.

Your credit is not something to be lazi fair about. Even if you want to, or do, live "off the grid" and don't have or want a loan etc.
It can come back to haunt you when you are in a place you would never expect it to be needed.

It took me 6 months to get mine from the low 500s to the mid 700s. It wasnt easy. Took being a grown up

when at times I didnt want to be. But it makes me feel more better to know that there are more oppurtunities available to me with it being where it is.

Yes, to all the advice from Imp. Yes to asking Mum first.

AND..... I would have the mods delete this whole thread. NO ONE need to have access to you personal info, especially a poultry forum that is available to the world.

Well, she said none of the info applies to her, so she's really not disclosing anything.
