I went to gather eggs today and noticed the strangest and gross looking egg. Pics below. I haven’t noticed any sick birds. They’ve been laying a little more since the days are getting longer but they’re coming up on 3 so it’s expected they’re slowing down. They’re more pet chickens than egg producers. I did notice a strange egg shell a few weeks ago in the coop floor but it looked like someone else ate it so I couldn’t really tell mixed with bedding. Anyways has anyone ever seen this type of “egg.” I did open it and it looks almost hard boiled inside. Totally NOT a joke. It was really gross. I made a vet appointment for next week but I’m not sure which RIR is laying this. Assuming it’s a RIR b/c my EE lay green gags and the outside of this looks brown.

It looks like possibly lash egg material. That is due to salpingitis, very common in some hens. Antibiotics may not help once lash eggs are seen. The lash egg link above is good to read.

Thank you. I did read the article and I’m hoping I’m catching it early enough to clear up the infection b/c other prognosis aren’t encouraging. :(
