crested help please

I have two crested hens that when I let them free range with my other hens these two poor babies seem to get lost. I have read on here that some people trim their feathers so they can see but how do you do it ? Doesn't it hurt ? Please help they get closer and closer to the edge of our property. Even though there is a fence there is also a dog on the other side that would love to taste one of my babies. Problem is they can't see him.

It won't hurt them at all if you clip the feathers at the front of their crests - the feathers that fall in front of their eyes. Wait until dark when they're on the roost and get a helper to hold them while you clip.
