We can try! At the very least, I'd love to see them :) I'm sorry they turned out so disappointing. If he was working on them for size or something and adding another type of bird to the mix, he should at least have hatched out his eggs to see if they were coming out consistently well before selling them you'd think?

Is that a light reflecting in the feathers? Looks like red streaks? It looks really cool, I like it! I just see it in two pictures, so I wonder if it's real or not?

He does have red leakage in his hackle feathers. I agree it looks neat, but it is not something you want. I am working on it.

I bought the hatching eggs through Strombergs Chickens who gets them from Urch. I clearly said that I was buying these to preserve an endangered species, etc.
When I called him up after I realized what a fiasco the whole thing turned out to be, he seemed really aloof about it and said nothing about what could have happened. At least Janet Stromberg gave me 50% credit for the order.
But even a total refund can't make up for the set back in my breeding plan, not to mention having to put down the culls. I can't afford to keep birds that don't have any value in improving genetics.

Live and learn.

I wonder what mine will be like

Now I'm getting interested in the possibility of breeding them, however I'm starting off with random hatchery stock! LOL. There won't be much to choose from for quite a while, but I suppose that gives me time to learn

I have a question. When I look for pictures of Crevies, like the Midderich illistrations from the 1870's and other vintage engravings, the Crevecoeurs had large, pendulant but rounded waddles. When were they bred out of the breed and why?

Most breeds pictures from a long time ago look different than the standard of the present. Also it is an illustration so it is someone interpretation. I find Crevs difficult to find good pictures of. I have found old pics, but I would love to find one more recent. That is of a Crev up to standard.

From what I have been reading on some French sites and the Crev varied quite a bit in wattles, beard, comb both leaf and v-comb. Besides being much bigger,

Here is a link I found to a French website with some recent pics. It is in French, but you can translate it. Download the PDF (the little green box under the two pics of the Crevs) for more pics info. I would love some blue Crevs. Another thing is on this page they also say the have white earlobes.

Wow, cool site! Thanks Poularde! Still not nearly enough pictures to satisfy, eh? LOL I suspect that there never were enough breeders around to change the standard if the standard was incorrectly written :(

Did you end up hatching chicks yet? I hope you got a few to hatch this summer?
