critical day 18: turn eggs or leave them?

Yesterday, my husband hijacked my screen name and asked what to do in our situation, but didn't get the answers he was looking for. I thought I would rephrase the question to see if we can get our question answered.
Okay, we have 6 eggs in the bator and today is day 18. For the first 5 days of incubation, we had the eggs in a homemade bator but then we went out a bought a little giant still air bator because the temp and humidity were hard to conrtroll on the homemade setup. So, on day 5 we changed bators, (once we got the new set up with the proper heat and humidity.) We have candled the eggs in the last few days and they all look alive, we can see the babies moving, but one egg looks far more developed than the rest. Husband thinks this is due to the inconsistancy of the homemade bator. He thinks the one egg was closer to the light/heat for the first 5 days, so it developed faster, and the others did develop once they had the proper conditions. We are going to stop turning the large baby today because it is day 18, but what do we do with the rest? If they need a few extra days to hatch, do we turn them for a few more days and then let them rest so they can hatch? Will they have problems if we don't turn because they are less devoloped? Either way, we don't want to cause the death of these peeps because we did or did not do something at the right time. Suggestions about turning or not turning needed please.

I personally have let eggs go a extra day turning and had no problems and I also have stop turning them a day or 2 early and had no problems.
sorry I can't help you more.

Perhaps the larger chick is just larger by genetics and not
incubating conditions?

I would treat all of the eggs the same. My first hatch began in a homemade bator. No turner. No fan. I got an LG still air, no turner.
I switched the eggs to the LG. 8 of 9 hatched.

I guess we are freaking out right now because of the 18 day lockdown recommendation. We don't want to be opening the bator to turn eggs if it should be locked down and left untouched.

I have to agree.

I find the auto turner being on has no noticeable loss in numbers getting hatched. I have some Black Orp eggs that like to hatch out 2 days early ( day 19 ). And sometimes, I don't get them outta the bator with the auto turner still on. And I still get a 90% hatch. And that is with the auto turner on. I like using the auto turner ( even when it is off) cause they tend to keep the eggs end up which seems to help the little ones even with it on. So, if you have an auto turner, no need to freak. You do more harm opening and closing the bator then leaving the auto turner being on.

My only concern with the turner being left in is the possbility of chicks getting caught in something. I take mine out, and if there's any reason that batch needs to be upright, (shipped eggs with damaged air cells is the main reason for that) I put them in an egg carton bottom. Normal eggs can lay down, no problem. The early hatching chicks that knock them around actually stimulate the hatching reflexes.

There was something another member posted about new research indicating that the eggs don't really need to stop being turned the last three days. I don't remember who that was, maybe they see this and have a link, or more info. From the number of folks who's eggs have hatched with the turner running, I'd say it makes sense to me.
