Critique on my Black Copper Marans babies.

After I get bcm figured out and on their way I got to start concentrating on our light Brahmas. I just found out that someone’s lb took champion reserve at our county fair last year. So that means competition for me. But oh how do I love some competition.

I have constantly stayed in touch with the lady I got my eggs from. She has helped me through some troubling times on our first hatch (crappy cheap incubator). My son was so upset about loosing his eggs from the machine malfunctioning and he lost his polish baby. She wants to brighten his day and turn his experience around. She has the bcm eggs incubating for him.

And she is going to give him a couple of polish. He is beyond excited. He is fixing to be 12 and cried about his polish baby passing. I cannot lie. I cried also.

I know the feeling. I killed a batch by putting aluminum foil in the bottom because I read in a published book that you can do that to help clean up the incubator. They didn't mention that it would raise the temperature and kill all the eggs. I was sick

I had to kill a whole batch of chicks and ducklings because I tried hatching them from a stupid used foam incubator that had failed twice already. The chicks that hatched were severely deformed, and I had to kill them. That incubator is in the the trash now.

To me, I wish the neck had copper on it. Keep a look out for copper-necked hens in your chicks, I guess.

Yeah, but honestly it's okay if they don't. If they have 'enough' copper, their male offspring will likely have too much.

It’s such a horrible feeling. I had 9 bcm eggs and a lb egg in there. The machine apparently malfunctioned during the night. I woke up at 5 am to check for internal pips. Eggs felt super hot. Looked on the thermostat I had in the machine and it read 113 F. All while the machine said 99.5. I just sat there and started crying. My babies were cooked alive. Thank goodness I already removed the ones that hatched or they would of died also. That’s when my husband came up and said baby don’t cry. I’ll get you a new one. Well my nr360 will be here next week. So I am excited about that. My 11 year old son tried to talk him into a commercial size incubator. Lol.
