From the domestic to the exotic, nearly every kind of animal imaginable will be on display at Planet Goat this summer.

The pastures at 1470 W Hwy 199 will be overrun with two-legged, four-legged, and possibly even some legless creatures from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on every 3rd Sunday from May through October.

Sunday May 15th marks the start of several month’s worth of “critter swaps” planned at the farm. Ducks, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, guineas, pheasants, rabbits, goats, sheep, reptiles, amphibians, exotic birds, chinchillas, and hamsters will be out in force to charm and amaze.

This swap will provide place for people to bring unusual pets and small livestock to sell or trade. Pre-registration is required and there is a small fee to sell an animal or to just come to look around. Even those who aren’t in the market for a new pet are welcome to attend. Not all kids have animals at home, so this is a good opportunity for parents and kids to see the different kinds and talk to directly breeders/sellers.

Critter swaps developed out of a need for more outlets to buy and sell animals. It’s a great opportunity for 4-H kids get their poultry and show stock. Having access to information is the best part about the swaps. Unlike auction houses, where you buy an animal and don’t know who it belonged to or the history behind it, the swaps allow buyers to talk directly to the sellers.

Visitors shopping, browsing or just out for the day will be able to enjoy the lovely grounds, delicious lunch snacks served in the farm store, and even treat the kids to a pony ride if they wish. Entrance is $5 per person over the age of 9. Children 9 and under are free (for the safety of visitors, vendors and animals a 1:1 adult to child ratio is required).
