Crocheting Vs. Knitting

Quote:
Either can, it's all about stitch and hook size. if you use a size I hook and double crochet stitch, your toes will be too big to poke thru. However I think most of us use a sheet and put the afgan on top of that.

Like both for different reasons! You can knit a blanket on size 11 needles and it would go just as fast as crocheting. I'm on my third pair of socks knitting 2 at one time on two circular needles. Fun concept once ya get the hang of it!

This is my first pair!

Self striping so it looks more intricate than it really is!

Here's the easiet afghan ever-

Chain a length long enough to stand on and bring up to your chin. I put it under my heel and over my toes up to my nose. I like afghans that you can really burrow down in. Now do a single crochet in every chain. Repeat until you use up 10-12 skeins of yarn or the afghan is wide enough for you. If you use varigated yarn it looks like you put a lot of effort into the patterning. HA! I like to make them out of that Lion's Brand Homespun yarn. It's think and textured and really warm. I'm curled up under one even as I type.

I think I've made 10 or so of these and the waiting list is about 5 years long at this point.

A single crochet is too tight to get your toes through. Double and triple crochet will let your toes poke right on through. And when I say single crochet I mean the one where you wrap the yarn over once. That's the single crochet, right? I kinda taught myself how to crochet and don't always remember the terms correctly.

I'm so glad for all the advice! I have tried both and will stick with crocheting uptil I get tired of it! I have a much easier time with it and it looks so much better then what I've attempted at knitting. Plus, crocheting seems faster.

Could just be because I'm all thumbs!

This is the stich I taught myself last night! I know what you mean by the single crochet. How long does it take you to do a blanket of that size?!

I agree. I have crocheted forever and have only knitted for a few years. If you make a big mistake in crochet...no biggie. Make one in knitting and then lose it while you are "tinking" (knit spelled backwards is tink...so taking out stitches is referred to as tinking)...what a nightmare!

youtube both and practice along, then you decide!

I know how to do both and I would advise trying something of each. I can knit without looking at if there is no pattern to follow and it works well for smaller projects, hats, scarves, mittens and even baby blankets but I'd rather crochet doilies (better designs) and afghans, tablecloths, etc. The knitting needles can't hold a large number of stitches easily (200 or more) and it's hard to put the project down in the middle of a row. I prefer to crochet afghans and tablecloths in smaller pieces and join them together. It makes for great take along projects that way and put them together when you're home. When you crochet you still have to use two hands, like knitting but both are relaxing.

I learned to crochet first, after nagging my grandma for a long time- never really did much knitting, but if you try a simple washcloth pattern, you can see if you like it- try learntoknit.com they also have crochet there. My MIL is opposite, she loves knitting, and can't figure out crocheting..
