Crockpot (slow cooker) incubator - take 2

Ever since I switch out the lid in favor of two towels the humidity has gone down, but the air temp fluctuation increased. I’ve stopped worrying about it 😅

I took questionable egg from Paint so she can focus on the viable ones... it’s now back in the pot.

Potty break this morning:

In unrelated news, I’ve been making too much bread.

Correct attitude to have. :old

I seen the other bread rolls you made in those funny hammock looking pan.:frow.. want to get one of those. I have been doing my baking in my outdoor grill lately. Made pizza, cookies, and baked bread. (I did not run out of pepperoni for the pizza on right.) Youngest grandson likes only cheese:old:gig
I made the stone for my grill. It is from Refractory bricks. I heat up the grill about 20 minutes so stone absorbs much heat. It does that well. 5 hours after tuning off, , stone is still warm to touch, but not hot. That is one of the properties of refractory bricks VS regular bricks.

It’s hard to not be a helicopter mom🥲

The pans I got last time were baguette pans. bought non-coated ones due to not being a fan of non-stick anything. They work okay for rolls and baguettes, but frankly I’m normally too lazy to divide dough and make long shapes.

Why you got to show me delicious things, I need a slice of pizza right now :(

By the way, my mom calls cheese pizza “vegetarian pizza” 😂 But not liking pepperoni... hmmm, I think some pizza education is in order.

What would happen with regular brick? they stay hot?
Speaking of brick, my friend a stone’s throw away is building a brick oven, I can’t wait for it to be done..

Those baguette pans with the holes make the bottoms crispy, not soft. DS uses round pans with holes in them inside home oven for pizzas. I am ole skool, and prefer stone. At home oven I have a couple round pizza stones.

If you are still hungry,, and have that NEW 3D FOOD PRINTER,,,, I think its made by ORANGE.. :old :gig I can send (email) you the file.:drool:drool:drool

Pepperoni:drool:drool:drool His older brother, and older sister both insist that it has to be topping.

Regular bricks do not hold as much heat energy as refractory bricks. I could search out the heat values for you,,, but its not that important.. Just trust me,,:highfive:.... I have considered constructing an outdoor wood burning pizza oven. The interior bricks are refractory, the exterior decorative bricks are regular. When fired up to 900°F, the pizzas are done in 3 minutes.
Unfortunately the times when we used to have large fiestas are past now. The family gatherings are smaller now, so the number of pizzas needed is also smaller.
Here is a link to more info on such ovens.

900F... You could always build a smaller one yknow ;)

Imagine those blisters and a nice char on the edges...that’s a dream pizza right there.

I use a cast iron dutch oven to get a good crust on my bread, but it’s not the same.

And what? food printers? Is anything sacred anymore? what culinary blasphemy! :old

In broody news:

I removed Paint in her box from the crate yesterday evening intending to clean out the cat room, but then I got distracted and went to do something else. Of course I forgot to put her back.

I came back around midnight to resume the cleaning, but didn’t actually see her until I was sweeping right up against the crate because she was so quiet. She was just chilling there in her box on top of the cratewhile I was making a lot of noise. No pineconey or screechy.

Such an odd birb, lol.

Candling day 7 -

- removing questionable egg today as it’s obviously a yolker or a super duper early quitter.

- One other broody egg looks like a quitter, but I’ll put in the pot for a few days more.

- I still can’t tell what is going on in two other eggs under broody :(

- All six eggs in crockpot are still alive and kicking.

Questionable egg looks fine and smells fine, zero development. Guess it wasn’t fertilized.

The cats are getting a gourmet meal tonight :)

Day 9.5
All the crock pot eggs are still going strong, I’m surprised.

As for broody, another egg is definitely a quitter. The blood ring was so faint that it’s hard to see, but it seems like it quit on day 3 or 4.

I don’t think the dark egg under her is alive either :(

So that leaves just 2 eggs developing under the broody.

Was it the eggs (I gave her all the solid shelled eggs), or could it be the shredded paper nesting material that I’m using....?

Day 10
I removed egg S4(solid egg number 4), the quitter I identified yesterday. There’s not much to see inside, just mostly yolk and a tiny clear gelatinous blob. it appears to have quit on day 2 or 3.

Broody is left with 3 eggs now. S1, S5 and S6.

S6 is a nice dark speckled egg which unfortunately also does not appear to be developing :(

When I candled the eggs, I feel like the air cells are larger on the pot eggs (P1-P6, P for porous, lol)... hmm...Should have weighed the eggs before I started 😅

Humidity has been mostly upper 40s, so I guess I’m kind of doing a dry incubation?

Ok, now you're going to have everyone making them.
