Hi guys.

One of my two month olds has a crooked beak. Bottom goes to left, top right.

She catches bugs still, she is growing, gaining weight.

Will she be OK????

Hi
I have a Black Australop with the same problem. I got her as a 3 week old, no sign of the crooked beak, but as she grew it became crooked. I do fuss over her to make sure she eats, she is slower to pick up weight so time will tell. Only response I had was to cull her, and I know that may still happen, will just take it day by day. At this stage all is still ok, but I don't know. She is now 20 weeks old and about 60% size of her mates ! Good luck with your little one.

Thank you for response.

My girl is the second biggest out of all six of my little ones!!

I have a BO hen who developed a crooked beak quite late--not sure when but she was fully grown. It doesn't appear to be a problem for her at all. In fact she bites me to get my attention because she wants peanuts. She's been off the past few days but I don't think it is related to the beak. Unless it becomes a problem where she is suffering I won't do anything about it. None of my hens are breeding so she won't pass the trait on.

I've had a silkie or 2 with this. I add mash or crumbles to yogurt & make sure I put them by themself to eat it each day while the rest are eating. This gives the food a bit of "stickiness" to help them grab it easier. There is a thread on here called "Diary of a cross-beak" that has some very good info on helping special needs birds, especially cross-beaks. The girl who started the thread has a bird who's beak has gotten so bad that she has to be tube fed, but many aren't that bad.

i have an ameracuna hen that was hatched in March 2012 with a crooked beak and is still doing great today! I have a feeder that fills from the top with out a lid she is just big enough to get in there to eat and puts her whole face in the food. At least she figured it out so i don't have to do much except trim the beak. It sounds like i might need to separate her this winter because she is a bit skinny compared to other hens.
Good Luck!
