Hi, I have been raising chickens since 3 years, Currently I have with me a rooster and a chicken(the rest are at our farm).

My chicken,Pat, has been with me since she was a day old. She is now almost two years old. She is normally a greedy girl, eating a lot, pooping a lot and running around a lot. She is a layer, and she lays an egg every two days. But her egg cycles are messed up usually and the eggs fluctuates between malformed ones, fairy ones and perfect ones.

Pat suddenly became more reserved and quiet and fluffy 4 days ago. I assumed that she would be laying an egg, because she tends to do that just before she lays an egg. But the sudden depression did not cease, and neither did she lay any eggs(which for her is normal because she is still not a hardcore layer). But when I started noticing her disinterest in food, especially in cream cheese which she would do anything for, I took her and began to examine the problem. Her crop was full, although she hadnt eaten anything the whole night, and I was checking her early in the morning.

The second thing I noticed was that the fluff at her rear end was smudged with poop. Apart from this, she would try to poop as she normally does but instead of the usual amount, only a small drop would fall from her vent.

She's been going like that since 4 days. She is eating barely nothing of what she used to gobble earlier, except for some yogurt and a little bit of seed she finds here and there. Her vent sometimes starts working as if trying to force something out, but I am sure it isnt an egg, because I cant feel anything inside anywhere. This may be my imagination, but I think her rear is a bit enlarged with fluid. The vent is healthy and there is no swelling or redness anywhere.

She has begun to lose weight and now her breast bone and abdominal bones are starting to poke out. Again, I could be imagining this, but her feet seemed unusually cold when she was standing on my lap. Her comb has become a bit droopy, and is pale.

She is showing no signs of egg binding, and I did not feel any egg inside her. Her crop has become what is undoubtedly an impacted crop. I gave her some olive oil today and it seems to have made the whole crop a bit loose(it was a hard lump). I felt the crop and there's mainly seed in it. I am massaging her regularly, and after these crop massages she always dribbles out some poop.

Her poop is runny, but its only coming out in drops. It was normal colored four days ago, but it has become completely white.

Please tell me what else I can do apart from olive oil and massage for impacted crop. And please tell me what could be the reason for her difficulty in pooping? Something is definitely applying pressure on her rectum, because everything else is relatively ok. Also tell me the best way to get her to stop losing weight.

I cannot take her to a vet because I cannot afford it.

I am begging for your guidance. Please help me and Pat.

I know I am being impatient but anybody? She's like my child and I havent slept properly since three days trying to figure out whats wrong with her.

Clean her vent really well, get some gloves, KY Jelly and very gently do a cloacal exam to check for an egg or mass. I think that the only firm thing you should be able to feel is the gizzard which I think is on the left side, about a finger length in, but don't quote me on that.

Since she's losing weight, I think you'll need to learn how to tube feed her. Can you go to a vet and buy a tube and syringe? She needs 30ml/kg of fluids every 6-8 hours or she will probably die. You'll need to buy a size 18 french tube and a 35 cc syringe. If this is something you're will/able to do, I can help you with links and/or phone instruction.

Does her crop ever empty? What is she currently eating? If you do think it is impacted then I am not sure tub feeding will help as it is unlikely much food is passing through. If a blockage is the issue you have to find a way to help it pass through olive oil and massage or to remove it with surgery. I have done a crop surgery in the past. Feel free to PM me if you get to that point and want to explore that option.

Even when the crop is full of food you should be able to add fluid, maybe not as much as you could with an empty crop. If the crop is blocked, it just might help to get stuff moving, but if she's walking funny, I suspect that she has an egg or other mass that's not allowing normal bowel function and has caused her to stop digesting food. Make sense?

A cloacal exam should be done ASAP, IMHO.

I am very sorry to leave everybody hanging there. I myself am suffering from some sort of viral infection that is making me feel extremely tired with intense bodily pain.

Yesterday I fed Pat some shelled sunflower seeds, and I was happy to see that she ate quite a few. I checked her crop and it still wasnt empty, so I am sure there's some sort of a blockage. I am getting her to drink olive oil, although she is not really fond of it.

I have noticed that she is straining to lay and that her poo laying routine may be going towards the right track. However, I checked her poo with the poo chart and its either got intestinal lining in it or Pat is suffering from EYP or worms. Her poop is mainly white with a bit of normal green. Its watery, and it looks like egg white when its fresh (extremely sorry for making that comparison!) and hardens into something like calcium. In between these white poops I notice some completely brown ones. I was thinking of digested blood and internal bleeding, but I have had that with previous chickens and its nothing like that.

I am suspecting that the small liquid filled area below her vent may be EYP. Can I leave EYP as it is and maybe she will empty herself out? I would really appreciate answers on this.

She is not egg bound, because today is by God's grace her 5th day and she is still fine. Cant say that about EYP.

Her system seems to be running because I have not yet come across a bad breath or any other symptom associated with sour crop, except for a softer crop after I make her drink olive oil. Things would have started to rot down there by now if it had been sour crop.Again, she is pooping small but enough overnight to say that her system is going, albeit very very slowly.

She is simply disinterested in food, and today I saw her drink some water.

Her comb shifts between red and pale, but its drooping.

Quite a few people suggested a cloacal exam. I dont know if this sounds weird, but she is a very petite hen and I am still doubtful about it. I will be taking advice from you all about this if I decide to do this.

Today it occured to me that Pat had recently started nibbling at a door and had made qiute a hole in the wood. Maybe a piece of wood got lodged inside her? Although she just peels off the wood, she never eats it.

I fed her with some tetra pak mango juice. Please tell me if store bought fruit juices are a good liquid diet to give to her, because at least she's drinking it. Or should I be super worried about the sugar and make unsweetened juice at home?

Lastly,I am thinking of giving her some chopped up red cabbage. If her poop the next day has any hint of blue it will mean that whatever's in her crop is at least passing down.

Her weight loss is worrying me,as are her cold feet.

Lastly,I know this sounds funny but why am I suffering from the same symptoms? I have lost my appetite and I am just not feeling well around the stomach. Could it be some virus or bacteria thats zoonotic? If I am thinking too much just tell me.

Will be looking for your answers.Thankyou so much people.

Pat is not getting better. She is totally disinterested in solid food. Dipping her beak into juice or broth or yogurt makes her drink some of the liquid, but she's not eating. Her crop is finally empty, filled with just the liquid I am giving it(may be sour crop but its not huge and her breath doesnt smell).

Her poop is still white. Its like a white mess in clear liquid with some foam on it. Sometimes there's a bit of adark green strand or circular bits but I have not idea if they are worms and worm eggs. She is still emaciated, her comb is droopy and pale, and she isnt showing any progress. She isnt laying either.

Any ideas what the white poop means? I am going to post pics in around 24 hours.
