Hello
Our girl, Big Jumper, hasn’t been feeling good. About a week ago, she started looking fluffed up and not as active but still eating and drinking. Then She would sit alone with eyes shut. I brought her indoors to observe her better. Her crop was full but soft like a water balloon and after massaging she began to leak fluid out her beak. But still ate treats and scrambled egg. The next morning crop had emptied. She perked up and ate and drank. It has been on and off again for last few days, emptying some but slowly with bouts of eating but definitely not normal self.
Jump ahead to now. Crop hasn’t emptied last couple of mornings. Looking bad again like in discomfort. I emptied crop this morning following directions I found on here. It felt like a water balloon, nothing hard. It didn’t smell sour. It was brown liquid with bits of meal worms. She isn’t very interested in food but has drank a ton of water with electrolytes and probiotics.
She has been having diarrhea too with both white and brown and some liquid.
What should I do? Can this be fixed? I really don’t want her to suffer. The other chickens are fine.
Thank you in advance.

She is still indoors. She ate some scrambled egg and a few meal worms today. She drank lots of water with electrolytes and probiotic and pooped a lot more than yesterday, still diarrhea. There is an odor. The same smell with both poop and crop leakage so I’m beginning to think sour crop. The fluid that comes out at times is brownish.
I am thinking of picking up miconozole tomorrow. ??? What dose and how do I get her to open her beak?
She is so thin and has definitely gotten much thinner in the past week since this started. What can I feed her to keep her going during this?
She wouldn’t touch a thick feed porridge today. Just the eggs which I made really oily and a couple meal worms. But my kids put bunches of pellets in her water and they dissolved and she guzzled the water so she got something from that too.

The poor dear!
It sounds like she has Sour Crop. The treatment is outlined in the link below.
Does she lay eggs? Often crop problems are a symptom of an underlying condition like reproductive disorders, worms and infection.
Getting a fecal float to see if worms may be part of the problem is always a good idea.

Thank you! She hasn’t laid eggs all winter. She used to lay daily. Occasionally laid a double yolker. We don’t have any vet that will deal with chickens where we live. I will treat for sour crop to start. I just don’t want her to suffer, poor girl. Thank you for the help!!

Good news! Big Jumpers crop emptied over night. Should I still treat with Miconozole?

I cannot get her to open her beak. I was able to get some small pieces of coconut oil in but not 2 tsp. Any advice?

The coconut oil won't hurt, I put it in the fridge the harden the oil, then offer small chunks. My girls love it and gobble it down. No having to pry beaks open.

It's good that her crop emptied overnight. I would continue to check that. Is she acting any better?

I will try to harden it more. I don’t think she likes it on her beak. I gave some to the others just to see and they gobbled it up so must just be her loss of appetite. She was perkier this morning. Ate a whole scrambled egg over the morning and some apple. I put her outside with the others and it was a bit chilly. She looked miserable all hunched, tail down eyes shut but after bringing back inside she has been more alert. It just keeps going up and down where I think she is going to die and then she is back to life. Confusing. I hope to fatten her up as she is so thin. Do you think I should do anything further for sour crop at this point?
