Crop problems

There might be some resistance in the diet shift at first - if they've been getting corn, that's like us getting nothing but Fritos and loving it. From a young age, chicks will search out the pieces of crumble with visible corn chunks in it. My top ranking hens go from feed station to feed station to sift through the Flock-Raiser looking for the corn chunks to this day, they don't call it "Chicken Crack" for nothing.

We do Flock Raiser Crumble 100% of the time. Treats (like scratch/corn) should only be about 10% of the diet. If you're not feeding a layer feed (I keep all life stages together … so no layer feed for my flock), do remember to pick up a bag of oyster shell. There are the smaller bags - or you can get a 50lb bag for around $14-15. The ones that need the calcium will use the oyster shell. You might see an increase in laying- depends on what else they've been eating that might have had decent protein content. The "layer" feeds are 16% - which is the minimum for egg production.

Edited to add: Corn only has between 7-8% protein.
