4 weeks into my chicken venture I have my 1st problem: crop rot. Went to vet: isolate, tube feed recovery formula bird food and a shot of reglan everyday. Per the vet this might be a 1 time deal or a chronic issue. She has been a good girl letting me help her, I hope she pulls through.

Hello and

Sorry to hear you've already hit a complication. I've not even heard of crop rot, but I'd still bet freshly minced raw garlic would help prevent it... But I have to do some research on it now. ;)

Best wishes.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!!

I have never heard of crop rot either. I have heard of slow and sour crops, impacted crops, crop worms and sometimes the lining of the crop can become infected.

Many chickens will let you work on them when they are sick. I have noticed that these types become very friendly after all the handling you give them and turn out to be the sweetest in the flock.

Good luck and I hope she makes a full recovery. :)

I've never heard of crop rot. I wonder if it is similar to sour crop?

For information on treating your bird, I would definitely post about her in the Emergencies section of the forums.

Good luck!
