CROP SURGERY COMPLETE! Sad update. :( RIP Yogurt

I'm in southern maine.

I've pm'd a few locals but so far nobodys dealt w/ impacted crop.

oh and i know what happened, i put some shavings in her box and she ate them. i saw them in her poop. but now there is nothing in her poop

Have you tried your state or county agricultural department? Sometimes they can refer you to a vet.

I think her crop is going down! it is def less hard!!!!

ugh. its not emptying really. it feels not as hard, but its not going down.

Impacted feels hard, like a baseball. Sour feels gassy and bloaty with a sour smell to her breath or when she burps. Crop stasis would feel like one of those stress balls you squeeze, full of mushed up feed, meaning it just quit functioning. That can be caused by mold in feed, especially when the bird is in full molt or otherwise depleted.

so what happens for crop stasis? is it just one of those things there is nothing you can do about?

If vigorous massage won't get things moving, the only thing that can be done is to operate and empty it manually, not for the squeamish.

i've been massaging a few times/day. how long should I do it for before considering it not working?

OK, I just found sometihng in her crop that feels like a marble. I wonder if she swallowed a moth ball?

now what do I do?
