Has any one successfully cross bred two breeds so it does something alot better than the breeds are meant to do. i.e. growing really quickly, laying lots of eggs or looks really good?

Yep, like bantamina's post shows, commerical industries do it all the time and that is generally what happens when crossing breeds, you get more productive birds than their parents, it's called hybrid vigor.
