Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been on for ages again. Hope you are all well? Hi beulah welcome to the gang! The swimming pool turned pond sounds err interesting! You got any pics!? I'm 26 from england and I've got 5 indian runner ducks though i think 2 are crossed with something else, I hatched them all earlier in the year, I also have 3 demanding cats!!! I think our countries list went something like uk, america, italy, holland (san? or are you norway? I know your somewhere over that way!) costa rica, australia, porto rico - faith? and wales! I think that covers it???

How's the book mitch? Have all the fires gone now karen? How are the Geese Nancy? Hope your okay faith? Same goes for everyone else too of course :)

Hey I put a post in "why arent my chickens laying" but no repky so thought I would ask you guys. My 7 hens have just stopped laying completely hhad nothing for nearly 2 weeks :( yes its cold here and days are shorter but I should still be getting something shouldnt I???Pleeeeeease help
.

I would worm them and give them some corn for extra energy and see if that helps. Could they feel threatened by something? A predator or the perception of one can cause hens to be reluctant to sit long enough to lay. Just my opinion.

My girls took a month +/- of laying so they could molt, their just coming back to life yesterday! Do your show signs of molting? Do a search on molting and you should come up w/ a really good photo of it. Unless your well aware of it.
So how is everyone? Were still working on a remake of their winter pen. It never ends?!!

. Hi Karen we were told not to give them corn to help them as it waters down the protein in the food their not moulting either :(

Are they molting?  Some breeds are only good for a yr +/-  My Silkies havn't laid in a 1 1/2 months and she had just started and layed for only 1 month.  My Cochins didn't lay for 2 1/2 months once they got here..  Then only one started laying and the other stayed low for  another month until she decieded to get going.  It's hard to say what makes them   I broke a Cochim that was broody for a few weeks.  I left her go into a kennel w/o a nesting box for 3 days and I would bring her back to her gang and by the 3rd day she was coming out and staying out and hasn't been back in there since!  But now I want to know.  When I do want a hen to go broody for me.  Is there a way to get her to go broody on demand! lol
Hey no their not moulting and they are not past a year old yet it may be because we introduced a new girl couple of weeks ago but not sure

My girls are 1 1/2 yr's old and they did molt. Now they are back to their beautiful selves and are back to laying!!! Whoopee! The Cochins stopped when I brought them here and it took them some time to decide to start up again. Now my only silkie has decided to stop, she's not broody but I'm sure she'll start up again son. I give them some cracked corn in the cold months like now! it's 18% out and I can't stand it! I don't feed the geese corn because it interferes w/ their breeding and boy do I want my sebbies to breed!

Swing your partner, does doe!
