You have to admit it's a different way to end a long, productive life. They were at a friend's pasture for safe keeping while I am out of town, too. The young ewes are okay, traumatized but uninjured and actually in keeping in a protected pen on a cattle ranch down the road. Bet the cattle ranchers were surprised to wake up to sheep!
What can you do, really?
All is in a holding pattern until I get back to town. Bears will be bears, sheep will be sheep. Hey, at least I get my new to me dog when I get back. The poor dog is only 7 months old and we will be the 4th owners!

Poor Puppy! What is he? And yes, animals pretty or not will always be what they are. Hope things are going better for you and your family!

The dog is half lab and half Queensland heeler. I work with a lady named Linda. Linda's exhusband's neighbor bred their lab and Queensland together and gave the exhusband a puppy. He gave the puppy to a friend. The friend gave the puppy to Linda's daughter and now Linda is giving the dog to me. The dog has no particular training, is hyper, and hasn't been spayed yet. She likely will contemplate chasing chickens, which we will try to stop before it starts. I think she is an uncouth sweetheart and look forward to being her new person. I enjoy training a dog and think this one will be good at agility and will definitely have to take her for walks so it will keep me in motion. Oh, and she jumps up, too.
It'll be great!

A bear ate my delightful old ewe and her precious ewe lamb. I am shattered. So sorry, Odessa and pretty baby Morgan....

Oh, Wow. I am so sorry to hear that.
It is quite weird for me to hear that some has lost their animal to a bear, I'm used to just an eagle or at worst a little fox.

No, no, the prior dog came without a name and La Niña Linda named her Zowie (Zoey) which was apparently not her name as she never learned it. This dog knows her name so it stays. I have been hunting for a dog tag for her with a kangaroo on it. Found out an Australian penny has a kangaroo on it so I am trying to hunt one up. My dad has a set of letters and numbers so we are going to sand the embossing of the reverse and stamp our contact info on the back of the coin. I'll drill a hole in it and get a split ring to hang it on her collar.
Of course this is merely an intellectual exercise until I get the dog and get home.

haha, the Tassie Devil is wild only in Tasmania, I live on the mainland.lol and the Tassie Devil is endangered, so not many left in the wild these days
