Same goes for the people who can't be bothered with pulling over to allow a police car, with siren and lights, to pass. They better hope it's not one of their loved ones that has a knife held to their throat (or other such urgency) that the cop is trying to get to in time.

I've seen a lot of cops going places with their lights on and the only time I've seen someone not get out of the way is if they can't hear them and they aren't looking in their mirror. I've also seen a lot of cops turn their lights on just to get through an intersection then turn them off and drive at normal speed. Who knows why. It just seems like a lot of cops think they are above the law and it's annoying. If you don't stand in the way they will come right in your house. then they just arrest anyone that's around when something happens and just figure that you can sort it all out later. After you spend 1000 dollars on a lawyer just to prove you had nothing to do with it. They are absolutely a very needed part of our society and they are very brave. They put their life on the line every time they walk up to a car to ask for ID. I think most of them are great people but some aren't and they can be real jerks if they feel like it.

BTW. I don't hate cops at all. I just don't want to be around them. I've never yelled at a cop and I have never used anything but sir with them. I have only been arrested once in my life and it was because I had a blue car with a door dent and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes I had to spend money on a lawyer because I lived out of state. The forensic evidence as in paint scrapings proved my innocence, but it showed me how easy it is to be falsely accused in our justice system. So I make sure that I cover my bases.

Good for your hubby. He's a brave man.

Who was making a joke? Are you saying cops never eat donuts? I know that cops for the most part are in much better shape than 20 years ago. I was just commenting on the way it's ok for them to be multi tasking while they drive. They are human and they do make mistakes.

Like everyone else in the world doesn't multi-task while driving? I use a bluetooth headset to take a phone call while driving or just don't answer the phone at all; but I have been known to fiddle with the radio or reach into my purse for something while driving. I'm not saying that there aren't cops in the world that don't enjoy a donut now and again (although the guys at DH's dept. seem to prefer my cheesecake to donuts) I'm just saying that you could have gotten your point across without the donut part. Why not say they were eating a burger? Why did it have to be a donut?

Burger or donut. They're both bad for you. To be truthful I've never seen a cop eating in their car while driving. Just drinking coffee. I also understand they have to run plates on their computer and can't pull over to do it. It's too bad they can't all have partners so one could drive while the other does the calls and plate runs. I shouild have said veggie lettuce wrap but then I would have been attacked by all the pro animal fat people.

Just answering your question here, so you'll excuse me if I don't take the time to quote your whole post....

Would I have been as vehement? Yep, the minute I read the part of the OP's post where it said "I Wan To Know If I Can Get Her In Trouble". It seems alot of people today don't want to take responsibility for their actions. They'd rather spend their time looking around for someone to blame, anyone but themselves.

Yes, I was taught a respect for authority long before I married a LEO. I AM quick to jump to a LEO's defense on the forum, to counteract the hundreds - yes hundreds! - of cop bashing posts I have read. Again the BYC rules state that it isn't allowed to bash a profession but that doesn't seem to apply to bashing cops.

I'm logging off now. I want to spend some time with my DH before he has to go back to work tomorrow. I'm leaving with a wish for all the "I'll do it my way, the heck with the rules" folks in the world...a hope that life never reaches up and slaps the rose colored glasses off their face.

Sorry I said donut. It must really be a sore spot with police. Police are more fit than I've ever seen them. Heck, most of them look like Marines these days.

All I am saying is there is a difference between respecting authority and blindly obeying someone just because they have a uniform on, or a couple of extra stripes on their shoulder. One leads to a healthy society, the other has lead to tragedies.

Give Mr. Gritsar a hug for me and tell him thank you for all he does. I, for one, appreciate the police. Its nice to know that whenever i really need help, all i have to do is pick up a phone and ask ..., and someone is there willing to risk their life for ME... silly, old nobody, ME.
Risk their very life and never see their children or spouse again.. for ME..
Make sure to tell him thanks for that. Even if others seem to forget it.

I was a firemen an part of the EMS system for 13 years. I have also seen the other side of a jail cell door many times. If I was cop bashing you would know. I have stories. I do try to be an equal opportunity basher though.

There is good an bad in any job, cops just effect our lives more than most jobs. A good cop is one that did his job right an is not remembered for it. A bad cop is doing something that makes people remember them. There is not many bad cops, they are just remembered more.

well said. I have had the opportunity to work with, and socialize with many officers both good and bad, and I will stand up to a bad cop just as I will stand up to any average joe schmo. Just because they have a uniform doesn't mean they should be above criticism. It is what has earned me cop friends because I speak my mind. I don't treat them any different. I see them as fellow human beings with flaws and good characteristics like any other person out there.

I think the OP did a good thing standing up to the officer for nearly hitting her on the cross walk. Just because the officer is wearing a uniform does not mean the officer is above criticism. In fact the officer is held to a higher standard.

When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter who is in the legal right.

The one who gets injured or killed is the one NOT in the the vehicle.
