So next time you are in serious trouble - robbed, attacked, in need of urgent help, call a plumber.

so you're saying that because i question authority when they abuse their power, i should not be protected from crime? And I am not saying all or most authority abuses it, re-read my post, btw nice job cutting out the "I will question any authority IF THEY WERE ABUSING IT"

Yeah, alot of people seem to forget that part. They are only human and like the rest of us, make mistakes. So why is it when someone has a beef with a cop, everyone and their brother jumps on the bandwagon to complain about them or tell their own "bad cop story"; or worse, tell a freakin donut joke. The BYC rules mention not bashing a profession, but everyone seems to think it's okay if it's only cops that are being bashed.

Just reminds me to pray each day when my husband puts on his uniform that the ones he may end up having to put his life on the line for aren't some of the cop haters in the world (and there are lots of em).

I was a firemen an part of the EMS system for 13 years. I have also seen the other side of a jail cell door many times. If I was cop bashing you would know. I have stories. I do try to be an equal opportunity basher though.

There is good an bad in any job, cops just effect our lives more than most jobs. A good cop is one that did his job right an is not remembered for it. A bad cop is doing something that makes people remember them. There is not many bad cops, they are just remembered more.

well said. I have had the opportunity to work with, and socialize with many officers both good and bad, and I will stand up to a bad cop just as I will stand up to any average joe schmo. Just because they have a uniform doesn't mean they should be above criticism. It is what has earned me cop friends because I speak my mind. I don't treat them any different. I see them as fellow human beings with flaws and good characteristics like any other person out there.

I think the OP did a good thing standing up to the officer for nearly hitting her on the cross walk. Just because the officer is wearing a uniform does not mean the officer is above criticism. In fact the officer is held to a higher standard.

I read it the same way Ranchy.

Besides, people get nearly run down in walmart's parking lot every day, when they are in the pedestrian crossing lane. Who do we call to get them "in trouble" ? Perhaps the drivers don't see them because they are driving, eating something (maybe not a donut) and yelling at their kids in the backseat at the same time, but those drivers aren't cops, so we won't complain about them.

That's why when I'm crossing the street anywhere, in front of wally world or wherever, I not only look both ways, I make sure to make eye contact with the driver; so I know they see me. It's called taking responsibility for oneself.

I'm quoting your whole post here, to be sure I don't leave anything out that you think I'm purposely ignoring.

We're assuming now that the cop is a BAD cop because of one incident told from one point of view (the OPs)? Except in rare instances of total wack-jobs, no one intentionally tries to run someone down (there was the time when I considered it would be best to put my ex down that way, but that's a whole 'nother story

). So until and unless that law enforcement officer comes on BYC and posts her side of the story, I don't think we can assume that the LEO was in the wrong and start bashing her for it.

Who was making a joke? Are you saying cops never eat donuts? I know that cops for the most part are in much better shape than 20 years ago. I was just commenting on the way it's ok for them to be multi tasking while they drive. They are human and they do make mistakes.

I think you are only quick to doubt the OP's story because there is an officer involved. Would you be this vehement if it was just an average person?

Like everyone else in the world doesn't multi-task while driving? I use a bluetooth headset to take a phone call while driving or just don't answer the phone at all; but I have been known to fiddle with the radio or reach into my purse for something while driving. I'm not saying that there aren't cops in the world that don't enjoy a donut now and again (although the guys at DH's dept. seem to prefer my cheesecake to donuts) I'm just saying that you could have gotten your point across without the donut part. Why not say they were eating a burger? Why did it have to be a donut?

OK I side with gritsar on this one, stereotypes are counter productive and nothing ticks a person off faster than an over used stereotype
