crossing the street law

In California the pedestrian always has the right of way. That includes jaywalking. She was probably texting or playing with her computer and didn't see you. You can always complain. If you don't have her badge or name or unit number of car they won't talk to her but might mention it in a brief or something. They make a big deal about distractions while driving, but as is always the case with humans, what's good for the goose is no always good for the gander. Generally police are considered to be highly skilled drivers that can drive, eat a donut and run a license while they drive. It's real hard to come out on the good side of an accident with an officer unless there are witnesses. You should be careful though. Cars weight more than people regardless of who has the right of way.

Hmmmm, the old "two sides to every story thing"?

My first question is, what kind of upbringing did you have to be yelling at anyone in a position of authority? Not the kind I had, obviously.

Oh and btw, I know very few cops that even like donuts. That joke is so old as to be tacky.

Down here it depends on where you are at. At a crosswalk, esp with the little walker guy showing, the pedestrian has the right of way.

But if you just dash out into oncoming traffic, you're jaywalking and taking your life in your hands.

Latest case was one this week that decided to cross I-30, 6-8 lanes of 65mph traffic, and was hit and killed.

That's down here, in my state, and my town... may be all of Texas or just Arlington, I donno. But HERE if you were at a crosswalk and someone, even a cop, tried to run you down, then they'd be in deep doodie. But if you were NOT in a crosswalk then be thankful they didn't hit you, and given who it was, thankful they didn't cite you.

First I would like to say I am glad you are OK. Secondly if you were in the cross walk and already in the street then you have the right away. Thirdly you are pretty brave! A lot of people would be too afraid to yell at an officer.! Go you! I Think you should call the station and file a complaint. I doubt anything will be done but at least the complaint is there

Nope... Dont even know any.

Yelled at a few cops over the years to though. Cops are human to. They sometimes need a good tongue lashing too.

My sister was once dating a cop and was at a bbq. Well the chief of police was there and he was pulling into the drive way. she was standing in the drive way talking and instead of asking her to move he started yelling as if she were a trainee in boot camp. My sister is a tiny thing but a fire cracker,. she gave it back to him told him he's not on duty and she isn't one of his officers. all of the officers started laughing and she earned his respect after that.

Sometimes someone has to be reminded.

Yeah, alot of people seem to forget that part. They are only human and like the rest of us, make mistakes. So why is it when someone has a beef with a cop, everyone and their brother jumps on the bandwagon to complain about them or tell their own "bad cop story"; or worse, tell a freakin donut joke. The BYC rules mention not bashing a profession, but everyone seems to think it's okay if it's only cops that are being bashed.

Just reminds me to pray each day when my husband puts on his uniform that the ones he may end up having to put his life on the line for aren't some of the cop haters in the world (and there are lots of em).
