We have some Lavender Orpington roosters that were purchased at Rural King, so I’m sure their quality is not great as far as breeding stock, but maybe will serve their purpose here to produce some barnyard mixes. What should be the resulting color of the resulting crosses with Black Australorps or New Hampshire hens?

Please note the term "split" will appear as (visually look) black but be carrying the lav gene that it will pass to future offspring.

This calculator doesn't include all colors or account for pattern or color leakage.. but it's still a fun tool..

More links.. I'm working on Isabella laced Wyandotte project and believe the lav will turn red/gold into orange/cream...

Hope this links help. Those crosses you are considering would still make great dual purpose birds. Happy chickeneering! :pop

What are your goals from this cross?
Honestly there wasn’t much goal except to just have some roosters to maybe hatch out some new chickens down the road so we wouldn’t have to rely on buying replacements. I had a few breeds in mind as far as roosters, hoping they would be decent temperaments and from breeds of fairly good egg production. I would have preferred Buff Orpingtons over the lavenders but that’s what the store had at the time. I could have ordered some but have not always had good experiences with ordering.

I have a Lavendar Orpington and crossing with buffs. I am anxious to see what they turn out like.

Black birds with buff/red leakage.
Yea, I think it will be cool. I absolutely love orpington breed. I am trying to find lavendar orphington eggs to hatch but they are sold out everywhere! I would love to have/find some silver laced orpingtons!!!!
