crossing

I have hatched many cross breeds, especially when I first started hatching and couldn't get shipped eggs to hatch. I grabbed 42 eggs out of my mixed flock, and all of them hatched. I had Spitzrolles, EE/faverolles, Spitzenhauben/ee....some were some of the ugliest chicks, I hatched.

When a largefowl and a much smaller bantam breed, the chicks will be in between their sizes. The size of the egg is determined by the genetics of the hen that lays it; the size of the embryo is determined by the genes of both parents. I think what happened is that the embryos were much too large for the eggs.

Me too thats another reason i started the thread i would like some stores of any situation similar to mine to make sure this situation dont occur with other future crossings. And i would love some success stories of positive experiences and crossings (and pictures as well)..!

what do yall think a one of those blue orpingtons crossed with a silver laced wyndotte look

Black, but if you breed the crosses you can get some variety
as far as color and pattern go the chicken calculator can tell you a lot

generally, size and conformation are somewhere in between the two parent breeds
but there are surprises and hybrid vigor can figure in
